2 Awesome Features OzBargain Could Utilise

Hi,

I recommend OB allows for RSS feeds for specific searches like Samsung Galaxy S3. Also a price graph tracker which tells you the average price at any time for specific popular items. (Galaxy S3 is another good example for this)

  • What you're looking for sounds more like a price aggregator than what OzBargain does (bargain submissions).

If you want to get prices from all over the place, StaticIce is the place. If you want to index and track them… I don't know that anyone does that at the moment. Are you after the kind of result you'll find from http://camelcamelcamel.com/?

I can certainly see a market for that - if you build it, people will definitely use it. Let me know once your site's up:).

Sorry I can't be more help.

    • It gets quite fiddly. You are either relying on data entry or API from a market place such as Google shopping. At least with OB they have the chance to get the users to do the data entry so it makes it easier.

  • You can see a listing of Galaxy S3 deals here.. As there isn't a price field on the submit page, it may be a bit difficult to create automated graphs of price changes. That said, a price field would be useful.

    • Adding to what @neil has said, add /feed to the product/tag URL will get you the RSS feed for that tag, i.e.

      http://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/samsung-galaxy-s-iii/feeā€¦

Now it's up to all you creative ones to get the pricing info out and do up some charts!

      • Awesome Scotty. Thanks for the exact RSS. I wonder if i'm the only person who uses RSS? :D

I use it on my 'soon to be eliminated' iGoogle start page.

Yea, RIP iGoogle. I run a very popular hosting system targeted at iGoogle developers since 2007. It will be extinct in November 2013. Oh well, it had a good run.

        • Any suggestions on a suitable replacement?

        • Love iGoogle. Used to make my own html start pages before I discovered iGoogle. Would love to know a good alternative.

        • Speed dial seems to be the best of the bunch according to LifeHacker anyway.

        • I can see why they are shutting it down. All the apps I used to host were receiving over 1 million hits per month and now that number has decreased enormously.

What?!! You guys don't have OzBargain as your home page? /jk

I too used iGoogle a lot and before that MyYahoo. Back to running a scraper after next year…
