iPhone 11 Not Turning on

Hi guys,

My iphone 11 has suddenly stopped working. I was using it all day but suddenly when I picked it up there was no sound coming out and after about 10 minutes it just kept restarting. Now it would not turn on a all..I tried to do a hard reset but it would not work. It had 78% battery life on it. So I took it to this phone repairer they said the motherboard it faulty and they need to send it away to a technician to have a look at it and the guy was not sure If I could recover my data.

I understand that to be able to recover data the phone should be turned on so can put my passcode in. What are the chances of recovering the data? I just want my photos.

  • have you tried logging into iCloud to check if photos are there?

Then you have to pay the lazy man tax and lose all of your precious memories.

It literally takes a few minute to set up backup.

It's 2022. This sort of stuff should be just a natural life process.

Not a question any of us can answer. It could be relatively simple battery swap for it to come back to life (in which case you keep your data) or indeed a motherboard issue which would wipe everything.

Try to get a second opinion from Apple Support directly.

Good lesson to make sure you backup your devices and/or enable iCloud backups.

    • I think they did put a new battery in but it did not work. When I was on my way there the phone actually indicatede that it needed charging with that plug in charge display so I am not sure

Was the repairer an Apple Store/Genius Bar? If not you might want to rebook with them. I do tend to find they're the better.

If it is and you do the repair, I reckon you got a good 70% chance of getting the photos back. I wouldn't be paying for a repair just for photos though.

iOS is pretty heavy-handed in uploading photos to the iCloud. Is there any chance they are there?

    • it was not an Apple Store, it is one of those shopping centre kiosks. I will get a second opinion from Apple for sure..

      • I don't know about the iPhone 11 but a lot of the more recent iPhones have their hardware components signed to the logic board or something, so if you replace the camera for example, if Apple hasn't approved the replacement part it won't work.

Weird how your phone just died, I'm still using an iPhone 8 and I've never had issues with it except having Apple replace the battery after a couple of years.

Do you know what your battery capacity was? Hopefully it's just an issue with the battery or something.

        • The battery capacity was at 78%. They told me the issue is with the logic board, spoke to them today and they said it’s still with the technician😒
