How to Know The Default Mobile Number of a SIM Which Has an Activation Error?

I bought a $300 prepaid Boost Mobile SIM about a year ago and only tried to activate it recently. However when I tried to activate it on Boost Mobile online I was prompted with an error message that the SIM serial number was invalid, already expired or already exists (yes I tried to activate it before the expiry date). I emailed the shop that sold me the SIM but was told they were no longer selling Boost Mobile SIMs and told me to sort it out directly with Boost Mobile. When I called Boost Mobile, the customer service representative kept on asking me for the default mobile number attached to the SIM which I could not activate. I wonder if anyone can please let me know if it is even possible to find out the default mobile number attached to the SIM without activating it first?

In the old days the number would be printed on the packaging. I have a feeling that may not be the case anymore, but not sure.

    • It should be the serial number that is required.

      • The rep wasn’t asking for the SIM serial number. She insisted there was a mobile number for the faulty SIM which I couldn’t activate. I honestly have no idea how to find out if I can’t get past the activation.

Try a different rep… you might've got one that doesn't know what they're talking about.

SIMs don't have a default mobile number. One is linked to it when it is activated. Either an inactive one (new, or not used for a period of time) from that phone company's list, or one ported from another active service.

    • This exactly. There isn't a mobile number, but there's no reason they can't lookup the Sim number.

    • No. The Boost rep kept asking for the mobile number even after I had already told her I wouldn’t know as I couldn’t activate it.

    1. Got to nearest servo
    2. Purchase $2 Boost SIM
    3. Activate new SIM with existing number, or any new available number
    4. Reevaluate time saved from calling Boost
    5. …?
    6. Profit
    • I did get a $2 new SIM from Boost Mobile website and activated it. I then called Boost Mobile to transfer the $300 value into the new SIM. However the rep kept asking the mobile number from the old faulty SIM which I couldn’t activate.

  • Did you try to activate it on the exact expiry date?

No. But close with only 1 week before the expiry date.

      • OK. I find the online chat works better than call.

There was once that I couldn't activate one on the exact expiry date.

  • Was the customer service rep actually wanting the 13-digit Sim serial number on the back of the pack?

No. The rep wanted the actual mobile number attached to the SIM. I told her I wouldn’t know as I couldn’t activate it to find out the mobile number. She then kept asking for the mobile number until I shouted loudly that I didn’t know and she hung up.

  • Sorry I forgot to mention that the prepaid SIM I bought was a $300 SIM.

  • I have an unactivated boost sim here so I just put it in a phone to see what would happen and I can see the default sim phone number in the phone settings.
Try putting the SIM card in a phone and see if the number is visible in settings.

    • Don't assume customer service is always right.

    • Thanks will give it a try.
