370

Just got an email JB HI FI offering $400 gift card to switch your number to Telstra under a 12 month contract for $69/month where you get 100gb data per month, unlimited call and text (min cost $828 over 12 months)

It says in-store and online, ends 14th December

They are also offering $700 if you sign up for 24 months to the same deal but I don't consider this a deal
They are also offering $99/month for 24 months where you get a $1200 gift card for 300gb data per month

Minimum cost of $828 over 12 months = $69 per month
Description text says $60 per month
    Title says $65 per month

    Am I having a stroke?

    • Same drunken laws apply to distinguish between new and returning customer!

  • $65 or $60?
    Min cost $828 = $69?

  • could have sworn i did it correctly the first time as I just copied the past deal title and pasted it here

  • Is the 100GB standard monthly data or standard plus bonus? Usually Bonus data ends after a period specified in the T&C.

    • +1

      Believe it is standard

  • +3

Tempting. I'll hold out for the $500 gift card for 12 months tho, if it ever comes back.

    • +6

Might be holding off for a while. I think it was already about two years ago.

  • Does anyone have that guide of signing up to a new service then changing it to your old number?

    • +2

      Live chat

      • think they also allow you to reduce the cost by $10/mnth as a porting in bonus or something

        • I asked and got $20 off per month on my most recent contract. I think it depends on who you get via live chat however

  • Ah so close

  • Is the 30 days still a hard rule? I've been off an old JB hifi plan for 15days now waiting on a good promo to get back in.

    • Unsure, when i did mine, i was off it for a day, went from boost to optus to Telstra

    • Yes. Most stores wont do it now as Telstra make the JB store pay back the bonuses out of their own pocket. Happened to the store I bought from, so I had to wait 30 days exactly

      • I did two numbers port in after port out for two day back in July. I think it depends on who you get at JB.

        • Probably more like how attentive they are to looking it up. I mean if they were super busy that day then they'll likely overlook it haha, on a quiet day I'm pretty sure they check.

Anyone had luck getting the $10 bonus from Telstra chat lately? Someone else posted the same item but it was a duplicate thread. They mentioned the $10 bonus, but I thought that had gone the way of the dodo. It would tip me over the edge if they were still doing it.

I got $20 off the $69 plan i signed up for 11 days ago, i just kept cycling through consultants till i got one who gave it to me.
if you get $10 you can always try and get another $10 a month after

      • What did you say to the rep that you were successful with?

        • +4

"i got told to contact telstra once my plan was up and running for a 12 months port in credit of $20 per month"

          • @Wiadro: Used exactly this text “ Hello, I just activated my new service yesterday 04xxxxxxxx and got told to contact Telstra once my plan was up and running for a 12 months port in credit of $20 per month. Please can you help apply this and confirm” - And this worked nicely!! Thanks @Wiadro!!

      • May I know the process please? Sign contract in JB hifi first, then talk to a telstra online rep and ask for $20 off?

    • +2

      I got $20/month off too

  • +1

reckon i could use the 14 day price protection policy to get an extra $100?

  • +2

They need to bring in international calling and roaming like they used to in one of their classic plans, for the wide range of immigrant here.

  • Does Telstra allow you to share data between sims/devices on these plans? ie use the plan’s data across iphone + ipad

    • Nope

  • Does anyone know if you get the gift card immediately upon signing up, or does it take a couple of days?

    • depends i did when i signed up last year but heard some didn't get immediately when signing up at store

      • got my $300 card in the store

    • +2

As soon as the port is processed/service is activated.

So can be a min or two or can take a few days.

    • The port needs to be confirmed, and they need to see your phone connect to telstra lol

Last time I had a nightmare porting back in, they had major hiccups. I did like 3 services, but 1 service was done with esim, while two was done with normal sim, esim was instant, physical sim was stuck….

    • Thanks, I'm just keen to use it tomorrow with the single day discount code. Will go in the morning and hope for the best

Can you use $5 one number for smart watch or need to be direct with telstra?

    • +1

The JB plans are considered direct with Telstra, and yes smart watches will link in for the usual $5, have done it myself.

  • Been holding out to see the 12 month, $500 gift card, $69 per month plan.

Been searching through and unless I've missed one, I think last boxing day was the last time they had that offer.
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/673656

So do we wait for boxing day again to see if it's on offer or just jump on this deal?

    • +1

Obviously your decision to make based on the info you have found, but previously it had been coming up every 2 to 3 months at $500 not just Boxing Day, however, in the past year this has no longer been a thing at all. To me that tends to indicate it is less likely to be $500 this Boxing Day.

  • Finger crossed for Boxing Day with $500 gift card, $69 per month plan.

    • Ok I'll wait a little longer!

    • When I spoke to a JB employee in store yesterday, he was strongly hinting there will be a Boxing Day offer but no specifics. I have to wait for that in any case because I only just ported out from a JB Telstra plan.

  • Maybe wait for the 89$ 1200$ GC deal again which happened during Black Friday. I was able to get that $89 down to $69 using the port in credit of $20 from Telstra chat.

  • +1

Thanks OP! Got this deal in store this morning. Got $400 gift card immediately. Went on chat and the second consultant I spoke to gave me the $20 port-in credit. Got email confirmation for the credit for the year. Pretty happy with that!

    • Any idea who you spoke to who gave you the port in credit?

      • Marjorie Ann. Weirdly enough, the Telstra app didn’t show me the name of the consultant - it was only on my Apple Watch notifications that I got the name.

        • Thanks so much :)

    • How do you request the port-in credit? Is it just something you ask for directly, or as compensation for something? Im just trying to understand the approach so I can ask in the chat for the same. Thanks in advance!

      • I copied and pasted Wiadro's [comment] (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/13109051/redir) above and answered any follow-up questions with as little detail as possible. This is because I used to say 'I only signed up because of this credit' and I found that I was always redirected back to JB if I did that.

  • Can you port in from boost?

  • I attempted for the $20 port in credit - was not successful. Was able to only manage to get $15 monthly credit.

    • Phone or chat?

      • chat - via the app

    • I was able to get $20 credit but only for 6 months. Used the chat via app.

  • If anyone else is trying to get the port in credit I suggest waiting a few days.
I tried on the day of activation and was just told that because it’s a JB hi-fi contract they can’t make any changes to it.
My guess is that I just need to wait a week or so till it’s fully active in the telstra system. Maybe a bill needs to be generated.

    • I will try and use the line from above

i got told to contact telstra once my plan was up and running for a 12 months port in credit of $20 per month

      • yep, I had to cycle through quite a few agents to get $10 a month off when signing up last year using basically that same line
