Which Gaming Monitor 27” Would You Recommend?

Going to spoil my kid with a gaming monitor after agreeing him with a straight A report card. (Probably fluked it)

He plays games like Fortnite/Valorant…. Hasn’t gone into heavy graphics games yet I think.

He will hook the gaming monitor up from his ASUS FX705DU laptop.

I have been looking and still unsure if I should go for a QHD for longevity. 27” I am looking at. Probably the right size . Correct me if I am wrong

(Not intending to get gaming PC yet)

Ozbargain favourite Dell 2721dgf seems expensive right now. There is a eBay Dell 32” G3223D on special with code right now though.

Do you guys have any other good suggestions which I should look at.
Budget $500. (Cheaper better obviously)
Might buy two.

Any recommendations highly appreciated

  • Personally I would go for a 34" 144p monitor. Since going to that I have never looked back. Just far superior in every way and they can be had for <$500. Just need to make sure the laptop can run it.

  • I would probably venture over to Reddit, they have a lot of a good reviews etc and they usually have quarterly best x monitor for certain budgets. Have a read and you'll probably have a gist of what you'll want.

  • +1

Think that laptop has 1x HDMI 2.0 port, which is limited to 144hz 1440p and 240hz 1080p. With those games being fps/competitive and the laptop not being super powerful nowadays, you'd probably be better with 240hz 1080p monitor like the XG2431: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=GOgs15DmGqU
Costs around $500 from various stores.
Of course it depends on his interests, that panel will be noticeably faster and better than his 120hz (144?) laptop, but a QHD 144/165/170hz monitor around $300-400 like the Gigabyte M27Q would be much better if he wants to get into single-player potentially AAA games in the the future, which would likely require a PC upgrade anyway - or if he wants it to be more versatile for productivity
