Good and Affordable Webhost?

It's been a while since I have to search for a new webhost service. I've been with VentraIP for around 14 years or so, was on their cheapest plan and it was quite a good value in my opinion.

Recently they forced upgrade me to their new and much more expensive plan though, apparently they want to close off their "legacy" plan. I wasn't happy being forced off it, but seems like their priority is to make more money rather than keeping existing customer happy.

So now I'm going to take my business elsewhere, and looking for a new webhost that can provide a good value and decent customer service, like VentraIP used to provide many years back. Probably just need a basic cpanel package, any recommendations from anyone?

Digital ocean sell Sydney based VPS now. Though there is zero customer support unless you're spending thousands per month.

Also don't worry about telling us what you're running, if you are using Wordpress for example or a static HTML site, or some other kind of web app, we might be able to give you more specific advice. But leave us guessing, it keeps us on our toes!

Check out Quantum Core. I recently switched to them for my domain hosting.

  • Which VPS would be recommended for hosting something like Docuwiki?

    • You shouldn't need a VPS for that unless it's getting the traffic.

      • thanks bro. any recommendation for docuwiki hosting?

Should be able to be installed in pretty much any shared web hosting environment. Take a look at hosting from Clickhost or DreamIT. Their shared plans will come with one click installers which will be able to click and install it for you very easily as well.

Also .wiki exist as a domain name extension as well get it for free for the first year at Porkbun renewal is about $30 Australian currently per year.

Unless you have Systems admin experience, aka you know how to manage and secure a server I wouldn't look at the cheap VPS and go with a shared hosting platform instead.
Take a look at clickhost.com.au owned by some of the ex employees from Netvirtue. Netvirtue was another company that VentraIP took over.
Also if you want cheap dump Cpanel and look at hosts that offer direct admin.
As the investment firm that took over Cpanel are increasing the price year on year so that is why Ventra had to increase prices.

  • Yeah Ventra IP's been going downhill in my opinion for at least two years now. These days my recommendation is Clickhost and DreamIT. If you're looking for shared web hosting here in Australia.

If you want to avoid ongoing price hikes that's going to be quite hard given the current climate of consolidation and venture capitalists and that's before taking into a count of the rising costs related to the economic situation we are also in.

It might be time to substitute software offering to lower costs as well as picking alternative solutions and different types of hosting to meet your needs.

For example cPanel is going to be receiving ongoing price rises for the for seeable future so switching it out for something like a direct admin plan can save you some money.

    Thanks for the recommendations.
I think I'm gonna give clickhost a go, the prices are quite good during the Christmas sale.
