Apple Pay Limits on HSBC Everyday Transaction Account?

Hi

Is there any single transaction amount limit for Apple Pay HSBC everyday transaction account. I can find it anywhere on their website.

Context: I’m looking to use HSBC Apple Pay to pay for my hotel over Christmas ~$2k and take advantage of the 2% cash back

Apply Pay limit aside, I'm pretty sure that the 2% cashback is only eligible for transactions under $100? If your hotel is willing to let you split it into ~20 separate payments and HSBC doesn't identify that you are trying to game the benefit, your plan may work…

    • Also keep in mind that you have a $50 monthly limit for the cashbacks, that means max $2500 spend per month can get cashback. I think this keeps the "gaming of the benefit" low. I don't think HSBC cares that you have split a $2000 bill into $100 increments.

I've been "gaming the benefit" for years, I get as close to the $50 monthly limit as possible. Even though I don't need it, this $600 extra a year is incentivizing me to go walk around to go pay my bills in increments. I pay all my bills in $99.50 increments at the post office lol. I pay council fees, water fees etc all in $99.50 increments across multiple days. Take your physical card if you plan on doing this, it wouldn't work with Apple pay, it says not an approved method of payment, but the physical card works fine.

That means you need to go through the trouble of visiting a post office? (I personally would avoid dealing auspost haha 😉)

        • Yes, that is correct, you will need to visit a post office to do this. Not sure if you can pay it at other places with an eftpos terminal, you basically need to be able to use Paypass to get the cashback.

  • As @zegoat pointed out - cashback is only eligible for transactions less than $100 made via apple/google pay. There is also a max limit of $50 per month for the cashback.
The only limit on Apple Pay would be any card limits that you would have set for your debit card, else, there shouldn’t be any limits.

    • Are you able to use more than $100 with Apple Pay and still get the cashback? I've never tried, only ever did below $100 transactions.

      • You won’t get it for transactions over $100. Have tried before.

        • Awesome, nice to know. I only do transactions less than $100 on my HSBC card lol
