Portable SSD Option with eBay Plus Voucher

Hi All

I've a $80 ebay plus voucher, obtained for renewing ebay plus membership and is expiring on 31st Dec. I want to add plug-and-play external storage preferably SSD to my dell (optiplex 7050 sff) to store the footage of my IP cameras (onboard disk storage is 128 GB and I would rather leave it as is since I have HA up and running) and hence looking to use my ebay voucher to buy a storage drive.

Any help is appreciated.

  • why SSD for "storage"?

Perhaps quicker than HDD, and longevity?

  • One of these should go alright, reputable brand. They seem to go more expensive on eBay than Officeworks so idk.. maybe you can find another seller who is selling the same thing cheaper. Just be careful with knock-offs.

      Again more expensive than Officeworks.

      • Thanks, pushing it slightly outside the voucher code, no sweat :)

        • Yeah :/ hard to find something within the $80
Don't want to recommend a no-name brand - especially given it's something pretty important that you're storing on there.

          • @chickendog: Thanks, mate, just spoke to Ebay chat and asked about the price match policy and the rep said that they can refund the difference amount but since I am paying with eBay voucher, I will only get $25 back in the form of a voucher. So using an $80 ebay voucher+ paying $120 out of pocket for 1 tb storage and eBay will refund only $25 as a difference. I said, No Thanks

            • @mkh1991: Wait so then you're only $15 out of pocket at the end of the day? 120 - 80 - 25
If you have no use for the $80 voucher and just want to use it that's not too bad? Better than spending the full $100 at Officeworks or wherever.

@chickendog: There are lots of storage devices on ebay where the size is faked.
When you plug them in, your computer will say that that it is the stated size, but when you start saving stuff to it, you find that the actual storage is much less.
On receipt, you need to check the actual size - some software tools for doing this are H2testw or FakeFlashTest, some guidance here https://www.raymond.cc/blog/test-and-detect-fake-or-counterf…
And there is no way of complaining to ebay about the listing. ebay doesn't care.

            • @kmwa: Damn I would've thought eBay guarantee or whatever would let you contest that and get your money back etc.
              That's poo :(

Thanks for listing those tools, heard about those scenarios before especially with SD cards - good to know there are some easy to use tools for it.
