How's Everybody's 'Kraken M15' 'Gaming Laptop' Purchase Going?

A while back they had this Intel NUC x15 with a stick of ram and some storage on sale for $1200 dollars.

I bought one because of the value is offered - so far so good.

Not really sure what to say about it - it performs just as well as my more bulky desktop.

That lil mobile 3060 is no joke, and the processor is quite strong - it can get hot, but it can deal with the heat quite well, as long as it's not 'too hot' inside.

It's just a solid piece of hardware, all around - but there's just something about it being so… bland? or like it was not marketed properly, because it's most definitely worth more than even a $1200 desktop when you consider that you can use it as a 'desktop replacement'…

I guess that the 3070 version would have been better, but that costs twice as much, and the price was the 'whole appeal' of the product.

EDIT: here https://www.mwave.com.au/product/mwave-x15-gaming-165hz-qhd-…
.. they're even selling it on mwave and charging twice as much - even then it's still probably 'worth it', although I'd wait til 4060 or 4070 laptops come out lol.

  • I came close to buying the $1200 deal, but something inside me stops me spending money on myself.

  • Wasn't in the market for one when the deal popped up. Now I'm very much in the market for one and kicking myself for not getting it.

  • I bought the 3070 variant for $1899. Was pretty happy with everything until I tried to hook up dual monitors. The thunderbolt port wasnt working. I tried everything under the sun to fix it but had to send it back to BPCTech.

Well at least they refunded me after ~8 months of use so thats a win?

  • +1

Absolutely loving mine, I don't find the look of it bland, I think more laptops should be following in its direction, no logos, branding just simple elegant looking. I do find it gets a little hot like OP said but havn't noticed any dips in performance or issues with that, the screen is quite nice, although usually have it connected to a monitor anyway. For the price of $1200 have no regrets whatsoever buying it.

  • How are you guys finding the coil whine?

I got mine through this deal: (Kraken M15 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/736134

It's very annoying when it just starts coil whining out of nowhere, and is especially audible at night.

Changing the RGB keyboard colour, or even turning it off, changes the whine frequency but it's still there once it starts. And then seems to come on / off intermittently.

    I wish there's a solution to it?
