Link to a Google Photos album which people can add to

    Done

    Currently $69 @ JB Hifi

Can then be so much more. A way for her to ask the weather, or even to call someone in an emergency if she's able to talk

    • That looks good. My worry is, she has an echo dot (alexa) and she isn't good with technology.

      Is this a problem?

      • It'll still operate as a photo album regardless, just means she won't get to use the other smart functions on it

        • Okay sorry to sound dumb.

          A few questions

          1) This linking to google photos album is that easy for someone to add too if not good with tech? (my parents aren't great with tech)

          2) Does The Nest Hub show an overlay (like time) over the photo

@sleepyman: Not that difficult, and a good thing to get them onto (the Google Photos app) as then it gives them cloud backup for stuff

Time will be in the corner, yes. Can also set the light sensor so it only shows the digital time at night etc

Just make sure they only share certain photos to the folder your grandmas device will be linked, as opposed to putting in all photos from their devices, otherwise your grandma will get random pocket screenshots, accidental photos of their face close up… or worse…

            • @spackbace: Hey mate. If my Grandma wants to view a photo she liked from earlier. Can she do anything?

In essense is there anyway for my grandma to find a photo she liked earlier?

              • @sleepyman: Liked where? Facebook?

                • @spackbace: Oh lol. no.

So if I make my google photo album for the nest hub.

Can the person who owns the nest hub (my grandma) go back to a previous photo or keep a certain photo up for a while?

                  • @sleepyman: She can scroll left to right between the pics. Not sure if she can pause a pic

          • @sleepyman: Or get the Max and you can video call her 👍

Just setup a google account and add the pictures to google photos… Done…

Share the picture folders amongst different gmail accounts and all can share/view.

        $67

      • echo show 5 or echo show 8 if already on that ecosystem?

        • Is it as easy as adding photos as google photos

      On Android:

      1. Create a shared album
      2. On your mobile device, open the Google Photos app Photos.
      3. Sign in to your Google Account.
      4. At the bottom, tap Photos.
      5. Select photos or videos for the album.
      6. At the top, tap Add Add.
      7. Tap Shared album.
      8. Enter an album title.
      9. When the album is complete, tap Share.
      10. Select who to share your album with.

      Important:

You can share directly to anyone with a Google Account if they're in your contacts or by search using their email address or phone number. For everyone else, you can create a link to share.
When you share a link to your album, anyone with the link can view and add to the album or photos. Learn how shared album controls give your photos more privacy.
If you share an album that automatically adds photos of face groups, anyone with access to the album can view photos as they're added.

  • echo show 8, $99 half price right now on amazon

  • I know you said under $200 but the ones being recommended here have 7 to 8 inch screens.

I don't know if your grandma is going to be able to see people's faces on such a small screen.

For reference I have one of those old 8 inch Sony digital frames I got second hand for a few dollars years ago. USB stick and memory card input only but does the job of showing photos.
I have loaded it up with a tonne of photos for my elderly mother and she has complained the screen is way too small for her to see.
I tried to set it up at eye level on the table close to where she lies on the couch to make it easier for her to see, but she still says a larger screen would be better.

And yeah I agree not many options for a good price these days. I was looking at the now out of stock Netgear Meural 15 inch WiFi frame on Amazon AU which was $399 shipped and I thought it was too expensive. Should have jumped on it though because other places are still selling it for $649 and Amazon AU is now out of stock.
