Do you have an EGO ?

    • Bought it from them yesterday.

I have this Chainsaw - it kicks ass. It's been used to tear apart many trees. Moved up from a Ryobi brushless and the two aren't comparable.

On a related note, I recently had an Ego battery die after 1 year. Contacted their warranty guys and had a brand new battery at my doorstep the very next day. Ego are amazing.

edit: Sorry, I lied. I have the 40cm model which I assume is similar in ability.

    • yea have heard great things about their support. a few negative comments also pop up but nobody i personally know has had issues with customer support.

The batteries are turds. They die or struggle at load after very few charges.

had my blower, edger and trimmer for over a year now with no issues. Even the 2.5ah battery on the edger which draws a lot of power. So what you are claiming isnt necesarilly true for everyone. I think as with most lithium batteries some people mistreat the batteries and then blame Ego when they die.

I had genuine Ryobi batteries for my power tools and i killed them in less than a year because i stored them flat. Now I have generic Amazon replacements which have been going strong for 4 years now, probably because i look after them a little better.
I did the same with my first RC Lithium packs too.

Of course, the alternative is that it could just be luck of the draw and QC on these mass produced packs sucks, so you never know how long they will last.

Mistreat? That's a huge assumption on your part. I treat them well.. They live in the house on purpose so they aren't even subject to heat. I don't store them flat. Other than that, they are a battery. Don't know how you think that can be mistreated.

They have a habit of dying out of warranty. In my case, that's after a few dozen charges at most. The most common issue afaik is they drop power under load.. Orange light and cuts out… But wait a moment and the battery indicator will show green again (I'm guessing a dud cell)

@justtoreply: By mistreat i meant storing flat, which does happen to a lot of lithium batteries. But if you werent doing that, then I guess poor QC is the issue, and i have just been lucky. The lithium packs i have had die early were definitely my own fault.

            • @DanielP2: yup had mine for over a year 2x 7.5ah, 3x 2.5ah, a blower, a 52cm mower, a whipper snipper, pole saw and hedge trimmer and some other stuff. Zero issues with all of my batteries and tools, used multiple times a week for a decent plot of land and have mates with stuff from these guys also and from the 1 who had an issue, next day replacement under warranty.

              • @quikstix: Its good to hear that on the off chance you do have issues, support should look after you

I really wish the next size up (CS1610E) went on special once in a while

Yes this. I've got a Stihl miniboss, and this little ego guy isn't enough of a jump up.

Sadly I foresee another, larger 2 stroke in my future, as much as I want an ego instead :/

Quiet too - so you don't attract more of the undead.

  • I have one of these $125 without battery and charger when Masters died. It's great especially at that price.

    • Got my Ego mower from them for $400 when they died. Poor Masters.

I bought the Trade Tools skin. Have just finished dealing with the enormous pile of debris after a happy chainsawing garden blitz. The $299 kit is even better value though, only $90 extra for battery and charger, even if it is 2.5 ah

  • Anyone got any tips to get a 5 or 7.5 battery cheap? Besides buying bundles. I don’t want to upgrade. Just want new batteries.

    • Are you in WA? I have some brand new ones surplus to my needs after going on a spending spree, updating all my old kit

I always wondered in Texas Chainsaw Massacre how they creep up on people with a chainsaw if it is running. We have a good one and it Stihl takes a few pulls to start. Gives the victims a chance for a good head start

  • Definitely seems to be an 'in-store only' thing. I just rang my local store (Kilsyth, VIC) and they're not offering the same.
