Help Me Choose between HP Pavilion and Intel NUC M15 - Budget $1,000

Hello,

Need suggestion to pick one of these or any other in $1000 budget. No particular requirement like gaming, just want good performance over long period.

HP Pavilion 14-inch i5-1240P/16GB/512GB SSD Laptop $815

Intel NUC M15 15.6" 1080p IPS Touch i7-1165G7 16GB 512GB SSD WiFi 6 W11H Laptop $1299

Above NUC will sell for $899 on boxing day.

Many thanks.

  • Neither, wait for real boxing day deals on ebay / amazon and get ready to snipe a 1k laptop with more decent specs. Although your requirements arent gaming, getting something with a dedicated gpu would serve better than integrated gpus over time.

Curious to know why you think dedicated gpu is better when hes not gaming?

I'm thinking modern integrated graphics are good enough now days while using less power, thus better battery life.

Futureproofing & having the option to use it if the need arises, much better than having nothing at all. Also having a dedicated gpu doesnt mean it defaults to use it every time, most nowadays you can opt to use it when higher tasks are performed saving battery life.

If it has a dGPU it's generally going to be bigger and heavier for both the laptop and power supply.
Also ones with dGPUs tend to be paired with more power hungry CPUs so battery life is still reduced even if the dGPU isn't ever used.

  • These are both not good deals regardless

  • If i had to pick one today and don't need a bigger screen, it would be the HP. The NUC isnt worth the $484 premium.

Otherwise wait for those thinkpad deals.

If you are buying the HP from Harvey Norman then definitely not that.
