recommendations for prebuilt PCs suitable for architectural 3D modelling and rendering on boxing day sales ?

Software : Lumion, rhino, Revit, autocad - will try my hand at all the other softwares too of course but so far is what I have.

Want to try my hand at unreal as well as have heard seen great things combining it to archi use

And all of the Adobe creative cloud set (after effects, Photoshop, InDesign etc)

Budget is 2k or so but prefer not spend too much if can

Am a student - this is my old laptop i got atm https://www.acer.com/gb-en/laptops/nitro/nitro-5/pdp/NH.Q7PE… hoping to upgrade from those specs for PC
.

https://www.cgdirector.com/best-workstation-pc-for-archicad/ this one might be a better guideline -

GPU value recc: Nvidia RTX2070 Super & 2060 Super

RAM value recc: Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 RM 3200MHz CL16

CPU mid-range recc: AMD Ryzen 5600X, 3900X & Intel 10700k

I'm using this as the baseline specs - the architecture student one (they recommend 16gb ram. 4gb vram.)

I already have keyboard and mouse so wondering if the one below might be more worth it than the above as it has ryzen instead of Intel (which I think is better iirc? Not sure.)

This also meets that but not sure if it's upgradeable friendly. Idk much about computers tbh please advise :') thank you

Or am I best of buying these ones instead? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/747102

Just not sure about how g it'd be for if repairs are required / replacements since it's online

  • All this is worthless without specifying your software or budget. Sketchup? Blender? 3D Studio Max 6??

Some will render via GPU, others via CPU, and none of this helps if you only have a $50 gift card from Christmas to spend.

    • Lumion, rhino, Revit, autocad - will try my hand at all the other softwares too of course but so far is what I have.

Want to try my hand at unreal as well as have heard seen great things combining it to archi use

Haven't tried my hand at blender or sketch up yet but will eventually

And all of the Adobe creative cloud set (after effects, Photoshop, InDesign etc)

Will put in post too thanks

My budget is 2k lol but prefer not too spend too much if can

… the windows surface laptop studio is extremely tempting (the maxxed out specs) but i assume I can get a better PC with that same price range - but since it's portable i understand the increased price range but just for max performance with less price than that I assume I can get a better deal?

I know building your own is even more affordable but :') what if I fudge up - I'd rather have a pro do it and I get warranty

      • Is your study related to the software you are 'trying your hand' at?
Just noticed the link to the laptop for Architecture students, good article.

You need to look at the system specs of all the software you are using and want to use.
Work on recommended or better specs e.g. Lumion requires 32/64GB of RAM.
The graphics card alone may take a significant part of your budget for that alone.
The others don't have quite as high system requirements as Lumion though.
I would still suggest i7, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, best GPU at your price point in a screen size and style of your choosing.
Check on active cooling in the laptop and maybe get a laptop stand with a built in fan.

        • I'm looking for PC instead of laptop - just using their specs recc guide

32 gb ram for sure and yeah… GPU…

Lumion is discouraged but i quite like the renders i made in laptop tho it took a while

thinking PC as want to upgrade from laptop

          https://www.pcdi.com.au/product/amd-ryzen5-5600x-geforce-rtx… wdyt?

          • @drumrollplease: That looks ok, no screen listed though.
Do you have a friend that could help you assemble a PC, it's not very hard.

            • @Leo Getz: Hey I've watched an online tut yeah not that hard but like it takes a while for parts to get here… And I tried to assemble my own https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/hmbGzf

But not to mention yeah windows copy… Waiting for time to get parts here… Time used to assemble…. I think I'm happy to get pre-built lol…

That's okay I've got a screen already still although kind of want to upgrade that too lol

Kind of know one or two but not that close with them
