    Denim (which gets its name from the French city of Nîmes (de Nîmes))[1] is a rugged cotton twill textile, in which the weft passes under two (twi- "double") or more warp threads. This produces the familiar diagonal ribbing identifiable on the reverse of the fabric, which distinguishes denim from cotton duck.

    Now Im even more confused. Are ducks made from cotton as well??

    er…some jeans contain a small amount of elastane so that the fabric is more stretchy.
