Citibank Global Wallet Using Different Account

Hi,

I'm overseas and have a Citibank account. I opened a currency wallet to buy some Japanese yen for when I'm there but I wanted to use my main account for when I'm in different countries.

Anyways, I used it to buy something the other day and it used my JPY from my Japan currency wallet. Is there anyway to change it to withdraw from my main account?

Thanks

  • Hmmm I’ve never actually used the global wallet thing, I just use my normal account and it does all the conversiony stiff automatically, so I’m not entirely sure how it works.

Have you also set up an AUD wallet, with your remaining money in there?

My guess is it could be that because you’re overseas and you have activated the global wallet, it’s using whichever global currency you do have first, before tapping into your original AUD non-wallet account.

    • Yep, I think I’m right. The Aussie website was useless, but this is on the Singaporean:

Will foreign currency transactions be debited directly from my foreign currency accounts automatically?

Yes, once you have turned on Citibank Global Wallet, your point-of-sale/online transactions and overseas ATM cash withdrawals will be automatically debited from your foreign currency account as long as there is sufficient balance.

      • Oh that sucks, so basically to even use my Citibank account now I have to burn through my JPY?

        • That, or put all the other currencies you’ll use on it? But essentially yes, it needs to use what you’ve already transferred.

  • In the Citibank app go to settings and then:
Cards / Accounts > (select your card) > Account Linkage
And then select the account you want your card linked to (i.e not your global wallet).

There is also a seperate setting under accounts for Citi Smart Wallet which is where it will try to take the funds from the account with the correct currency first.

    • Ah awesome, just linked. I'll try it next time I go out!

    • Hey this worked, thank you so much :)
