Would Mileage Improve after Car Servicing

I drive a 2020 Tucson ActiveX. Full tank used to show a mileage of 550km to 580km depending on how much of it is on highway.

After its 40,000km servicing it is showing 716km for full tank.

Has anyone seen something like this before?

algorithm needs to recalibrate… Burn through a couple of tanks post service and it'll have more relevant usage data to work with.

Yes and no, but not by that much. Sounds like they just did a fuel trim/ecu reset, so the car will now have to work out your driving cycles again to calculate the dynamic range guesstimate.

Makes much more sense now. Thank you

Unlikely it would actually change by that much.

Distance to empty is a guess by the computer based on your recent driving habits. It isn’t a true measure of consumption as it can be influenced by recent driving conditions or as above could be due to the computer being reset. It could be as simple as the fuel level changing unexpectedly by parking on a slope at the ‘wrong’ time.

If you really want to know what your consumption is you need to record how much fuel goes in and how many kms you are doing per refill. There are plenty of apps available to help you record it. It’ll vary by as much as 10% between tanks.

  • Sounds like the OP is telling us what the computer is predicting for the first tankful after a service.

Things like this can happen after a service because the computer learns from experience of how you drive, and the service clears its record of experience, and it has to go back to predicting based on optimistic factory defaults.

Wait and see what kilometerage you actually get.

Get another service to see if it goes over 900km. If successful go again for over 1000km range.

    • Wonder if that'd work for a Tesla …

      • Incremental OTA updates recalibrate the kms travelled slightly shorter so it looks like you are going further.

  • Flat tyres are now properly inflated?

    • I always filled them at 38psi

      • That's pretty high for cold psi. What size wheels/tyres?
