Is Kogan Mobile 1 Month Free Scheme No Longer Working as before? (Almost Impossible to Run The Freebie Any More?)

So, before you used to be able to get those $4 ($1 $0 whatever) Kogan Mobile sim cards with vouchers.

Then you would activate that on their website with your credit card, then would just go to "payment methods" and remove auto recharge and credit card details immidaitely and your SIM will be active for the next month and will expire then. Pretty straightforward.

About 2 months ago the payment page on your Kogan mobile account changed - they removed access to cancelling your auto recharge and removing your credit card details.

You were still able to call the customer support and cancel all of that via phone.

Now it changed again - if you remove your auto recharge or even your credit card details, apprently Kogan cancels your SIM card effective immidiately.

Is this correct? Does this now mean that you need to call them a few days before the renewal date?

Thanks

Yes it seems they can only cancel the service according to the most recent response in this thread

  • It operates like Belong Mobile. It gets rid of frequent 30-day short term users.

    • So are you saying it 's a user specific restriction? Kogan says it is a new setting for all of the monthly plans.

      • Short term users are discouraged to sign up. More users will have to recharge. It is certainly a tweak to increase revenue.

        • Yes, I understand that just trying to figure out what is the easiest and safest way of dealing with it.

        • Why don't they just have one large 365 day recharge for 1.5 TB for $150? That's the way forward.

I definitely would bite on that. Instead they mess around with these small sims and making people have to activate like mad people. lol. For those who want to scrounge, they will scrounge; in fact this new method will lead to even more loss of revenue because people will just phone up and cancel if their true intention is to just use the data.

Ruslan Kogan doesn't even know how to run a proper business. You see the clients doing a certain thing, you build the product around it. I bet the poor data analyst working at Kogan or that will be brought in as a consultant will be laughing his ass off at how bad the numbers look. You can make a profit using a method, why not do it; you can't make a profit under the current method.

Then again… My family has been in the telecommunications business for decades. I don't blame him for not having the foresight. I often thought about starting a MVNO as I have connections to Vodafone's parent company, but my current job provides me with a lot more freedom and flexibility.

  • The recharge function has been a bit dodge when I tried last week, I had a valid code which I knew I haven't used but when I entered it in, said it was invalid. Did another free month esim, also invalid. Had to call them and they manually did the code for me, which ported over my number without the otp authentication. But when I logged back in my kogan mobile app, it didn't ask me to put in a CC and still says my auto recharge is disabled. You should be able to use the same account if same number, but I guess having to call them to activate and to cancel isn't much different lol

    • Thanks, no it is helpful. If you can activate over the phone without the need to provide details of your credit card it is a lot safer. And at least you would not need to set a reminder to cancel it. Maybe will try that next time.

will port out to another carrier more faster and safer than call them to cancel the service?

  • All these problems can be easily resolved by using a spare debit card with minimal balance in it.

  • Well that seems like the end of Kogan mobile, it was only useful for the $1, $2, or $4 monthly plans with auto-pay removed.

What happens if you just port out?

    • That's fine as before.

  • Re all port out questions: I do not know how it works and never do it. I just use the new number and sim every time.

    • OK. It is really the end of game for you. I do port out/in mainly.

    https://accounts.koganmobile.com.au/service/recharge/schedul…

It should be working again. I just turned off auto recharge and removed my card details on the link and my service is still active.

    • For monthly subscriptions?

lucky you. cant turn off auto recharge here

      • I think he is still on the old plan. I had one expired today like him and just applied the new voucher and added a bank card. There is no way to remove the card, only update card.
