Gas Bayonet Fitting but Sideways?

Hi,
our backyard has this type of gas connection, which I believe is called bayonet fitting. (See image below)

Is it possible to rotate it so the connection point is sideways, instead of facing down?
I see the screws but not sure if it's safe to do it myself or if it's a bit more complex and should I get someone to do it for me?

Any advice?
Cheers!

Plumber required - it will be soldered to the copper pipe.

This is purely my thoughts as I don't have gas at my place but they're probably meant to face down to prevent water getting in and laying in the threads and possibly corroding them over time.

    • ours is sideways on surface of deck

  • Is it possible to rotate it

    Out of curiosity - why?

Considering a deck so the height would be too close to insert the bbq hose otherwise

Could always attach a small intermediate hose

See if you can get an elbow connection. Would be waste after it's been plumbed in so well

  • Thanks everyone! 🙏

Why not simply remove those two screws, and see how it is connected?
Unlikely to be flex hose, but you can see how far it pulls out from the wall, which may give options.

Any chance the fitting has a thread instead of soldered/brazed to the pipe?
(Home NG pipes are very low pressure, BTW, not like LPG.)
