Bought a Table That Came with Scratches - Should I Return It and Buy It Elsewhere Cheaper?

So I bought a table from store A. It came with defects, so now I've received a replacement which came with scratches again, which is considered defects. However, upon going to a store and picking up some some cleaning agents to scrub out most of the scratches after several minutes I was somewhat able to clear it up more. Although if inspected close enough the scratches are still visible.

In the meantime, store B has offered me the same table for ~$150 less than store A. This was happening in parallel whilst I was arranging a replacement for my initial table with defects.

My question: Should I try get a return and refund for my table with store A? This will mean I have to disassemble and put everything back in the boxes to send it off which is a huge task in itself.

If you're happy with it and don't mind paying the $150 to avoid the hassle of taking it back then keep it
Otherwise take it back, get from Store B and hope it doesn't come scratches too (third time lucky)

  • what's the title and purpose of this site?

    there's your answer

    • At what point do you consider effort vs money? This isn't a small item. A table is a much more difficult item to return. Specially an electric standing desk.

  • I wish it were that easy. I suppose the point I'm trying to make is that after doing some cleaning with agents, I managed to remove the sctraches mostly. It does not detract from the fact that the table was not in a suitable position to begin. Add to that the effort in returning a table is so much setting aside the $150 in value.

    Sounds like a hassle

    • It is. Not to mention my money could be stuck with them for over 30 days.

The time and effort to return and repurchase eats up the $150 you would save.

So the real question is: are you happy with the condition of the table you have now after cleaning it up? Yes or no, there is your answer.

    • Thank you! That's how I feel like how I should treat it. I still have to consume time getting it back to them. Bulky items are hard to handle 🥲
I think I have polished it enough to be able to keep it. Although, 14 people here some to think otherwise lol.

Ask Store A to refund $150

    • How do I approach that?

  • Sounds like change of mind to me

how bad are the marks?? worth the screwing around?

    • Well, when you pay nearly $2k for a table, you'd hope it is in pristine condition. The marks are almost near as gone but with but I had to buy stuff snd put more effort scurbbing it. I don't even know why I did it, but still.
