Event Cinema Evoucher from ShopBack "Not Valid"

Hey guys, hoping to crowd source some support since it's a weekend and I can't get any from event cinema

I picked up a couple of evouchers from the Shopback deal in September and decided to use them to watch avatar. I read the T's and C's and nothing seems to say they shouldn't work, I am going before 5pm on a Monday Pub hol) and am not getting any fancy seats. However when I try to put the voucher in I get the error "warning: the voucher is not valid"

I was fully expecting to have to pay a bit extra as per the T's and C's for a 3d movie, but it won't even register them. I checked on the event voucher checker and it says it would include the value but it just says "child ticket, expiry (some date into the future).

Has none got any experience with this and can give me some pointers?

Nothing like finishing off the year with a gift card e-voucher issue.

    • On top of that, I won tickets from the Nestlé cereal promo, but it actually costs me 14 bucks to use them (apparently they are for "original" screens so still have to pay extra). Probably picking up a booking fee on those too.

Isn't there some law about giving things away that end up costing you money?

      • Years ago I got some 8.50 movie vouchers. I thought they were $8.50 off, but they meant reduced to $8.50 - my bad. But turned out a regular ticket only cost $8.50 anyway, so the voucher wasn’t even giving any discount at all.

        1. What law…the vibe?

        2. But if you got original screen then it would have been free?

          1. There's definitely skme scam lw about running a competition and when we ple win requiring them to pay to get their prize,i am no lawyer but that's basically the business model of the Nigerian prince (except substitute no prize for a prize you pay for)

          2. true, but the tickets were for Avatar, not general tickets. This movie doesn't fit on any screen that's not Vmax, so it's a bit disingenuous IMO to provide avatar tickets and not provide Vmax tickets IMO

          • @Jackson: Sorry about that, was typing on the run. Meant to say "there was definitely some scam law about running a competition and when people win they are asked to pay money to get their prize"

@Jackson: Sounds like it would be worth a complaint to the promoter and whoever licenses competitions in your state. If you could be stuffed for the sake of $14…

  • I’ve had a similar issue with cinema vouchers. Not worth the hassle in my opinion. Even if you do get it resolved it’s such a pita.

  • Surely this is an issue that needs to be taken up with shopback and for them to resolve?

    This https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/724512 clearly states:
Restricted (off-peak) vouchers are not validafter 5pm on Thursdays, Fridays & Saturdays, and any time during public holidays. Not valid for use in Victoria, ACT, and Tasmania.

      The old terms and conditions.

      Pffffft! Who reads those?

Thanks for pointing that out I couldn't find the original deal at the time. I did check the terms and conditions on the voucher in the Shopback app, and it clearly says after 5pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and does not say anywhere on public holidays. Would be interested to see where the info in the description came from
