Holiday Fringing Reef in Australia or Nz

Hi All
Looking to go do some snorkeling in aust or nz. But really want to make sure kids can use…so like a fringe reef where the water is maybe 1-1.5m deep and can snorkel realively safely looking at coral reefs fish etc.

Already been to Whitsundays..but anyone recommend somewhere that's relatively private as well in aust preferably

Ningaloo Reef - gorgeous. Just don’t even try for the eclipse!!

    • It is a long reef..any particular place you went to..anywhere like 1.5m high where you can still see coral reef etc

      • Coral Bay. Facilities within a few minutes walk from the beach makes it super easy with kids. The water is spectacularly blue. 30 second gentle paddle from the beach and you're amongst the corals.

        • Coral Bay is wonderful but has less facilities than Exmouth. It’s worth visiting both

      • Turquoise Bay is lovely - two types of snorkelling, either the basin area or the drift. There’s many snorkelling spots along the coast from Exmouth - there’s a tourist information centre based in the National Park and they advise you the best places to go depending on the tides.

  • Low Isles near PD

  • Heron Island would be my pick in Australia. Otherwise, almost everywhere in Fiji has reefs you can snorkel directly from the beach. Fiji is only slightly longer flight than NZ or North Qld and significantly cheaper.

  • Lord howe island would be my pick.. although pricey
