Is it worth upgrading from Hero 8 Black?
Does the cancelling of the Subscription still work to get reimbursed the subscription fee ($69.99) ?
I believe it does but keep in mind it's not reimbursement, doing the "hack" is stopping the additional subscription fee going through.
I used Paypal to pay a few days ago, got charged $527 or something (I went the bundle) and immediately cancelled authority to GoPro in my Paypal account after the $527 went through.
Amy from GoPro has sent me a second email tonight that my subscription payment has failed but my GoPro is winging it's way between Singapore and Australia as I type. Sorry fake Amy from GoPro, let's stop pretending that you don't know what I did.
It's annoying that I want to buy their charger but they only sell charger with batteries, and they don't ship batteries without a camera.
Buying from local shops will be more expensive since you don't have discount from your subscription.
Thinking about adding a GoPro in the order then return it, but it's complicated and might have to pay for return shipping cost.

Grab a Telesin charger off Amazon. I grabbed this one on sales for just under $38.
I find the batteries pretty good.
Even if they did ship batteries without a camera, once you add shipping to the charger+battery it would probably cost more than local prices.. .This is a big part of why I think the subscription is worthless…

Absolutely amazed by it. Charges both blue and white gopro batteries without issue even when you mix them in the slots. Has USB-C AND micro-USB ports for charging.
For $20 it's a steal.

You have to use a dodgy trick to avoid paying the subscription fee:
The hardware purchase payment goes through as soon as you finish the checkout, then the subscription gets charged a little later, so the trick is to cancel the Paypal payment permission straight after checkout…
Straight after you finish the checkout go to Paypal >>> Settings>>> Payments>>> select the Gopro auto-payment permission and cancel it so Gopro dont have permission to bill you again in the future…

Hi, I bought last night and did what you suggested and removed auto payments and worked before was charged.
But when I go into the order tracking with number provided it still says "We do not see it but hold tight" "please wait a few hours for systems to process it".Can you tell me how long it should take before can see my order in their system?

What is the subscription for?
Gives you discount on future purchases from GoPro store and unlimited online storage of videos at original resolution.
Personally I think it's fairly useless…
-You get unlimited cloud storage, but that only lasts as long as you're a subscriber.
-Damaged camera replacement, I think the current replacement fee is $150.
-Discounted accessories but batteries can only be shipped with a camera purchase, and you have to pay shipping so it's generally cheaper to buy accessories locally.
-Unlimited use of the Quik App, I've never used it so I'm not sure how worthwhile it is… .
What app do you use instead

@FLICKIT: 475.97 only applied as a new subscriber when taking the new subscription, wish I could send you screenshots here but when I add a new camera now it's 519 with uniday code. maybe you could try it out also, as an existing member your camera added to the chart isn't 475.97 otherwise I'd return the second camera that I bought two weeks ago… coz I paid 519 for it as my friends' birthday gift.

Gopro are fairly strict and temperamental with warranties so I doubt the warranty is transferable… and it's VERY wise for people to have the 180day Paypal protection so if Gopro start playing games you can just lodge a Paypal dispute to get the issues sorted out…
People can still buy subscriber discounted accessories with a new camera while using the subscription fee dodge trick… Buying subscriber discounted accessories after the initial camera purchase generally isn't cost effective due to the shipping costs, and they wont ship batteries unless they're purchased with a camera, so this make subscription fairly useless to Aussies…

Just wondering how long it was for others to get progress on their order status? I ordered Saturday night and I received the order confirmation email, but no update since then. I do get a message in my GoPro account that my subscription is due (I did the cancel thing via PayPal).
Being yesterday was a public holiday (here and Singapore) I thought I might get some movement today but I’m still getting the following when I search for my order.
“We don't see it, but hold tight.
We couldn’t find your order, but it’s usually a timing thing. If you recently made a purchase, please allow a few hours for our systems to process it.”Obviously been a lot longer than a few hours.

hi guys, I did order one on 3rd Jan followed the guidance here, turned automatic payment in paypal off. I still don't have a tracking number and the website doesn't show anything about the order(the initial payment went through immediately, just the subscription is pending) Got an email from Amy (from gopro) today morning as the payment for the subscription didn't go through. I didn't open the email as it is tracked, but not sure what to do now.
Just ignore the email and sit tight, it should all be ok…
Eventually they'll probably close this loophole but it's been working since mid 2021 so hopefully you should be fine….
I got my shipping confirmation this afternoon, so about 5 days after ordering.
That's an unusually long delay, they may be having issues of some form in Singapore, lack of stock or such… Either way, it's good peace of mind for the others still waiting :)

I got charged a $12 conversion fee. I thought they use AUD not USD?
They charge in AUD but the transaction is processed overseas so most banks charge the 3% international transaction fee… It's a bit rude but it is what it is…
