I am looking to fly Melbourne to Bali on Aug 4th, returning Aug 18th. Everything I'm searching (Jetstar, Qantas, Webjet, Airasia, etc) is >$1,000 which seems a bit steep. I can be flexible + or - a day going or returning if it's a significant different in price. Any help would be much appreciated.

I don't think you can get cheap airfares to Bali at that time.
You are clashing with big holiday time Ramadhan, locals flock to Bali.
