Do AmEx allow you to link a KrisFlyer account that isn't owned by the card holder?

Want to register for a new AmEx in wife's name to get access to bonus points as I've held an AmEx card within the last 12 months in my own name (which is now canceled). But we have a relatively large balance of Kris Flyer points on my personal KrisFlyer account so was hoping to be able to get them sent to that account, rather than a fresh KrisFlyer account in my wife's name.

So lets assume two fictional people Jane & John.

Jane is the AmEx card holder, but wants to link to John's KrisFlyer account as the account to receive any MR conversions.

Is it possible, or will it be blocked in your experience?

  • pretty sure that won't work. Normal T&C would be accounts belong to same person.

  • It worked for me a few years ago when I needed 6k for a redemption so I used my dad’s Amex account to send me SQ points. About one year later SQ audited his account and sent him a please explain. But by then I had taken my redemption flight and given it was a small amount of points, I thought I got the better end of the pineapple. I wouldn’t risk it with a large haul of points.

  • I don't think it's physically possible to do it through the Amex points transfer portal. Don't think it lets you put in another person's details (different to card holder)?

  • Can’t be done. Transfers from Australian Amex accounts now require a KrisFlyer account in the same name.
