Upgrading Just Graphics Card or CPU and RAM Too?

Purchased a gaming computer in 2021 - It was all I could afford at the time especially since graphics cards were ridiculously expensive

i5 11400
16gb ram
RX580 8GB

Sometimes while playing some newer games I will need to turn the quality down a bit to get nice smooth play.

Do you think just upgrading the graphics card will help a lot or is the CPU and RAM also outdated?

Given the specs of the CPU, what graphics card would be a good upgrade?

CPU is still good. GPU is definitely what’s holding it back.
What resolution and refresh rate is your monitor?
And what games do you play?
How much are you wanting to spend on a new GPU?
I can recommend a GPU if you answer these questions

    • Yep.

From what I've read, to give a rough idea, that CPU is within 1% to 14% or so of the very fastest CPUs on the market for 1080p gaming. For 4k, within 0% to 3%.

      Definitely no noticeable difference.

Spend the money on the GPU.

(I suspect Nvidia/AMD are starting to run out of suckers and will have to cut prices on their high end GPUs and release some mid-range ones within the next 3 months, if you are willing to wait a bit).

    • I have an Acer ED320QRS 1920x1080, 165hz, freesync

Kids play a fair bit of Fortnite, Modern warfare 2, Forza

I play Snowrunner, Rust, GTA V

How much are you wanting to spend on a GPU?

        • Max $400? Would that budget get me anything as a worthwhile upgrade? Or how much more would I need to add?

@guerd87: An RX 6600 or 6600 XT are good value options in your budget

@FireRunner: Thank you. Just had a look and the 6600xt is definitely a good upgrade. PCCG have them for $429 at the moment

                @guerd87: That’s a bit expensive imo
If you got targeted with this code from eBay you can get a RX 6700 for $445 as per this comment
                I’d say a good price for a 6600 is $300 and a 6600 XT is $350

@guerd87: rx6600xt is a great card, even better if you can find one second hand (recently sold mine for under $300 with warranty).
Otherwise if you go 6700, make sure your PSU is 650W or higher.
450W minimum if you go 6600xt.
                Good luck!

                • @WhatWhoWhyUsername: Thanks. Might have to stay with 6600xt then over 6700

My computer specs when I purchased listed power supply as 550w 80+ cooler master power supply

                  • @guerd87: good choice, it's one of the better current bang for buck ($ per fps) for 1080P gaming.
It can also dabble in some 1440p as well.

Depending on your faming resolution, upgrading the graphics card to 5700XT or 6650XT should be enough
