Do You Use ALDI Trolley in Shopping Centre with Multiple Grocery Stores?

I find that the convenience in using Aldi Trolley is being offset with the inconvenience in finding Aldi trolley aisle to get the token/coin back. When I do find one, sometimes it is already staked with trolley from different supermarkets. Having said that, by not using Aldi's trolley, there is also an effort to get a trolley from other supermarket first.

Context: in the shopping centre that we go to, Aldi is where we get most of our groceries from and is closer to the carpark entrance. So we usually go to Aldi first before picking up other items from different stores (i.e. if the item not available at Aldi or if we want specific brand).

Mate, that’s illegal. I’ll let ya off with a warning this time but only because you seem like a good kid and I don’t want it to mess up your permanent record.

Sorry I didn't get it. Which one is the illegal part?

        Not seeing the sarcasm.

Haha sorry - even if it wasn’t sarcasm, I’m just a random person on a random forum - what power would I have to actually issue you a punishment 😂

How dare you! Ozb is not just a random forum.. Some people have a (little bit of) better life because of this.

    Yes
I use one of these, no need to return for your money or token.

You need another option in the poll for those who stick it to the man.

If it's reusable, why would anyone need ten of them?

    • Will this work for all type of trolley? I saw in ebay that they are selling sizes equivalent to $1 and $2 coins

Grab a non-Aldi trolley from the trolley bay in the carpark and bring it in with you.

    • Yes this is the most efficient way, except when we are doing impulse buying, which turn out to be a lot of items when I am hungry.

      • +2

Well you know what they say, don't go shopping when you're hungry :)

What’s worse is when the lazy trolley collector for Aldi puts the baby seat style trolleys in all but one corral for Aldi trolleys, and you have to run around the carpark like a lunatic trying to get your $2 back from the only corral that has regular trolleys.

With a dog in it thru Bunnings!

Just leave the trolley when you're done with it and let some kid earn a dollar by bringing it back.

    • Just like Dick Smith wants you to!

    • Isnt this normally collected by someone hired by the shopping center?

      • +1

Well the dollar will be a nice treat for them too. They can buy a dollar's worth of anything they want.

  • +1

No, because I prefer the high Woolies/Coles trolleys. Aldi only has deep trolleys.

    • +1

My 2 Aldi now have shallow trolleys.

  • If I'm at my usual centre where I usually park in a section near the aldi trolley return bays, I'll use a token and grab an aldi trolley. If I'm somewhere else and a quick glance around the carpark makes it look like it'll be a hike to return it, I'll bring another trolley from the bays inside and use that (usually have 1 or both kids with me so take the trolley in with me for the toddler to sit in)

I prefer the aldi trolleys because I can put my bags on the base and usually because they require the token they're not as banged up as the Coles/woolies trollies.

  • Seriously?

  • Tip :)

  • There are plenty of abandon trolleys all over the carpark. I pickup one on the way to the shops for free.

Interesting. I wasn't going to post a thread OP but see this would have been a duplicate. My thoughts are below…

I noticed most Aldi customers are too lazy to get a coin or key to use the Aldi trolleys so will often take a Coles/Woolworths/Kmart trolley into Aldi to do their shopping.

If the customer was already shopping at the other merchant then I don't see a problem with this. However, most people I see nonchanantly take a trolley (or two!) out of the trolley bay from a neighbouring business and head straight to Aldi with it.

I observed about 80-90% of shoppers inside Aldi had a non-Aldi trolley and it appeared that they were doing their primary shopping there.

I think it is poor ettiqutte if you are not shopping at the other business. It costs them money associated with trolley collection/cleaning and the issue of potentially running out of trolleys to supply their own customers.

Full disclosure: I work for one of the grocery retailers and it is a pet peeve of mine.
