Home renovation - Bathroom and kitchen fixture recommendations

Hi all.

We are looking to commence some home renos in the next 2 months and want to reach out to see if anyone has any recommendations regarding where and what to buy, in particular showers and tapware. It all looks similar enough and want to see if there is any quality items for a good price that we should be looking at. We are looking at mid to high end fixtures but they all seem to look similar enough.

Also, please let me know if you have found any decent suppliers younhave found in NSW.

Thanks.

After months of looking into this when we had our bathrooms done recently, we settled on Phoenix. Pricier than some, but great quality, and look really good. We just picked the pieces we wanted from their website, then shopped around online for whoever had them cheapest.

I just go through the clearance bins/racks at Bunnings. Often some heavily discounted items. Just make sure any open boxes have the complete contents.

    • Need to do this a while before the Reno though but sound advice - got all methven products like this

  • Stick to the relatively better known names more for reasons of replacement parts etc. As someone who has done both kitchen and bathroom, I will never again go for some no name brand tap or toilet. Getting parts, even 10 years later, has been a nightmare (to the point I have just ripped them out and replaced them with Caroma/Dorf/Clark/Methven etc).

Also, ensure everything you install is a common/standard size - towel racks are standard width and easily replaceable, same for shower fittings etc.

Vanities, shop around - if you're after laminated, there's excellent wholesalers that will ship anywhere in Australia.

As for NSW, the only supplier I used there was Trademasters - found handle replacements at good prices and they couriered to me in Adelaide for $19.

  • Methven is a brand I’m really happy with. Their post sales support is apparently excellent
