I was gifted a Costco cash card (I am not a member) and wanted to know if I use up the total amount on the card in one transaction can I pay with cash for remaining items? Thanks!

The answers vary about whether you are allowed to pay the balance off. If it's a few dollars over then yes most likely, but if you have a $50 gift card and try to spend $500 then they will most likely deny you. Have read about people getting rejected when they spend over the GC amount

Just note that once you spend the entire card you will not be allowed entry into CostCo without a membership card or another Gift Card from your friend/family.
Could you keep the used gift card and show that to enter in future or do you have to scan it to get in?
The card is taken so you can't enter with it.

What about doing partial payment to have some remaining balance in order to retain the cash card, or simply do not use it to pay?
If I am the cash card recipient, is it better to receive five $20 ones than one $100, which means five entries tickets? There may be some sort of restrictions on the purchase of cash cards for members, or not purchasable?
@Neoika: Costco Australia calls this thing Shop Card.
When you pay for things in Costco they will ask you for membership. For non member it means you have to use the Shop card.
You may then intentionally buy less than for example a $100 card so that you can get a second purchase.
Shop Cards can only be purchased in a warehouse by current members. Non member cannot reload the the card amount, but a member can.

You can't purchase petrol using the cash card and you will need the physical receipt for refund.
I'm sure you can get in without membership with that cash card, and pay the difference with cash or credit card. Contact a local Costco to be sure. Choose option 8 for management.
