Help Me Fix My Prime Video on Chromecast with Google TV

So while I can set up basic things, overly complicated tech language isnt my forte. I have been having exactly this problem with my Prime Video on Chromecast w Google TV https://www.amazonforum.com/s/question/0D54P00008HW0FmSAL/pr… , where it ll take about 30+ seconds to load a video, and once its finished it ll try loading and get an error, then eventually plays.

Apparently its something to do with a DNS setting on my router, I have set mine to Google and Cloudflare, but I dont know how to change it back to ISP based? I'm using a Telstra Gen 3 modem but currently on Exetel and there is no option for 'auto gen' or whatever. Heres a photo of my Lan thing https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/126302/100877/screensh… , I cut off the DHCP as im not sure if someone can hack it or not lol

The IPV4 primary and secondary dropdown options are all preselected, but only the Telstra one is blank, does that mean I pick that one and it goes to my ISP or does it go back to Telstra.

This only happens with Prime Video, every other app is fine. Seems alot of other people are having this issue as well.

Any guidance would be much appreciated !

Thanks

  • What options do you have in the drop down list for:

    IPv4 Primary DNS
    IPv4 Secondary DNS

  • Guessing Telstra is your only option ..unless you look at wrt or technicolour hacking for custom DNS.

    • Ah damn, it wouldn't let me select the Telstra one as it says Failed something. Zzz

What an odd selection though, like why is Getflix on there. I do have Getflix but I don't want my overall internet to lag

  • Having the same problem with Prime - tried the dns settings suggested in the Amazon forum - made little if no difference.
Also the same problem with Peacock TV - Netflix is fine.

  • Seems that ccwgtv defaults to using googles dns servers if using dhcp. You can set manual dns by using a static ip on the ccwgtv.

Just get exetels dns ip addresses and set them on the ccwgtv and see if it helps.

  • Just tried all this - not convinced that it makes any difference

  • Using prime video across multiple devices including Chromecast and use the Google DNS on the main router, not experiencing any issues..

    • Do you have the Chromecast with Google TV? When iI cast from my phone directly to the TV, its all fine. Just the Prime video app on my CCWGTV thats really crappy. I have it on my Chromebook Duet5, Samsung S6 lite, phone , all works fine except the main tv one -.-

      • Yes Chromecast with tv works fine.. crappy Optus supplied router NBN 50 connection.
Also use Plex/Amazon, fire TV ..no issues 4k HDR content mainly.

  • Started with Google then tried CloudFlare no difference for me - ah well just have to be patient
