Lebara SIM Card Activation Issues

My friend from oversea just bought a Lebara 30 Day Starter Pack for $6 (reduced from $24.90) today. He couldn't seem to activate it online with overseas personal details. I tried to activate the SIM with my local details and I still couldn't go through the activation process. Why is it so hard? Has anyone encountered the same problem?

Since the Lebara support is offline now, I will try to call them up first thing in the morning tomorrow to see if they can help.

    I've activated 10+ Lebara SIM's over the years and never had a problem. I haven't tried using overseas details, but that could have initially been the problem. I am unsure why the site won't accept your Australian details.

    They have live chat on the website who are usually quite helpful, but as you have found out you will need to wait until tomorrow morning to get help.

    • How much time do you need between activations? I had one 2-3 months ago and churned during trial, trying to activate the same number on a new sim and get "Number already in use"

      • Are you trying to port the number from another carrier, or are you trying to activate a new Lebara SIM using a number that is already active on another Lebara SIM?

        If you're trying to do the latter, it won't work. You need to port out to another carrier first and then port back in to Lebara, or contact Lebara and tell them you want to move the number from an existing SIM to a new SIM. However be aware that they will probably not let you use the value included in the new starter pack if you do it that way.

        My advice is to buy a $5 Aldi SIM, port the Lebara number out to that (you don't need to purchase a recharge, just accept whatever inclusions it has). Once you've ported to Aldi, then activate the new Lebara SIM and choose to port the number in.

        • I had Lebara 2-3 months ago, did my cheap month with Lebara. Churned to Boost.That expired a week ago, but now trying to churn back to Lebara with the 2nd sim I bought.

          I am using the same app, same number, same name, same address details etc. that I used previously with Lebara.
          Always get "Number already in use"

          I used to churn between Amasim and boost. that wasn't a problem.

          The big question is, is there a gap I need to wait out or do I need to contact support to release my record?
          Worst case, I can give this sim to soneone I know has never used Lebara so this sim wont be wasted.

          I don't make alot of calls with this number but its nice to have a service in the pocket and I don't want to lose this phone number.

          • @biggweilo: There is no gap, I actually do this regularly. I go Boost for a month, then port to a new Lebara SIM, then once that expires I port back to Boost.
            I've been doing this for 18+ months without any issues at all. I've never had that 'number already in use' error that you had, so it's pretty strange.

            You might need to give them a call or use their live chat to see if they can fix it up for you.

  • Thanks for your info. After 3 calls to the support centre, I finally got it sorted out. A bit messy but not too bad. It still baffles me why the online activation didn't work and the support number 12xxxx number listed was not in survice. I managed to get help with the 1300xxxxxx support number.

    • The 12xxxx number will only work from an active Lebara service, if you're calling from a different carrier you must use the 1300 number.

  • I have pre purchased a Lebara (paid for a full year pack already). However while activating, it is asking me to choose the plan again and asking for card details to charge again. I hope there has to be some voucher code that needs to come to mem however i have receive none. I dont know how to activate the sim. As usual I am on the call for 2 hours, no response. Also the online chat is saying minimum wait time 2 hours.
