The G-SQUAD is huge and ridiculous but I'm buying it anyway. It has Bluetooth for running and excercise which I have no interest in, but the screen looks cool.

"The G-SQUAD is huge and ridiculous but I'm buying it anyway"

If you want it without the huge case, it uses the same module as the newer and slimmer square design GBD200.
    Features are all the same.

The cheapest I have seen the GBD200 recently was at Firstclasswatches AU (UK watch store) using 15% off coupon brought it down to around $170 to $180 shipped (Free shipping). Obviously it costs more and buying from the UK means no warranty. But I don't have a problem with the second part since they are made to high standards.
I ordered from them and it arrived within 2 to 3 days via DHL (need to confirm and allow them to leave the package via email).

Also by the way here is how the bluetooth works. Obviously to run up to 2 years on a CR2032 battery the Bluetooth needs to be energy efficient. It must use Bluetooth LE and that means the watch goes to sleep and disconnects bluetooth if it detects no movement. So keep in mind if you put take it off at night after awhile it will disconnect and won't be getting any notifications during that period.
If it's always on your wrist it will stay connected.

Also some people seem to have issues with the bluetooth not successfully reconnecting with the phone. I found the cause of this, I set the location settings for the G-shock Move app to "always allow" and this allows the watch to reconnect with the phone at any moment and sync time on the watch which it will do automatically once in awhile.

    • Thank bro, now I have 2 G-Shocks. You're very knowledgable, thanks for the info. I don't care about the BT becuase I will never use it

"I don't care about the BT becuase I will never use it"

Yeah honestly I just use it to sync the time and according to the detailed battery life in the user manual the up to 2 year battery life spec includes using the BT.

But if you have no use for Bluetooth, just don't connect/pair it to the App. You can set the time and all other settings on the watch. I am pretty sure you will get even better battery life that way and that's good because less battery changes.

Forgot to mention the code is CASIO15. It sometimes won't work on watches that are discounted. Can't remember how to tell, I think if it has "sale" in red text it won't work but worth trying anyway.
Sometimes they have price drops with the price crossed out and reduced without the red sale text. You want to catch it during one of those moments, get CASIO15 to apply and order to get the discount.

    • Obviously it costs more and buying from the UK means no warranty. But I don't have a problem with the second part since they are made to high standards.

Unless something's changed, Casio's warranty is international so you're still covered. But it's only 1 year, compared to 2 for local stock (which I'd argue is still way too low under the ACL for a "tough" watch).

I was told many years ago that another option is to contact Casio directly in Japan, who may ask the local service centre to just repair it anyway.

"Unless something's changed, Casio's warranty is international so you're still covered."

Oh I didn't know that. I don't really have any concerns with warranty anyway, I have owned a few Casio's and never had issues. Also know how to change the battery and perform AC reset myself.
This was the first time I purchased from the UK store. But the price was great for the colour I wanted so I thought it was worth it.

        • Yeah idc about warranty on any watches really. It's not like I'm buying an auto with 6 complications

It's a plastic watch for $140 lol who cares

@rosebank: "It's a plastic watch for $140 lol who cares"

Yeah but worth mentioning, if it's a solar model with rechargeable battery you will want to send it in to Casio if anything does go goes wrong.
I just watched a video recently, guy mentioned turning on auto-backlight on an old model and it absolutely drained the solar watch's battery and almost killed it.
I can't afford any of those solar models lol so it doesn't matter to me. But yeah I guess it depends.

@harshbdmmaster718: I have about 5 solar g-shocks, never had an isssue. Guess I'm lucky

              • @rosebank: Yeah I could have just been tricked by 1 person's extreme use case (they were camping). But I think those who spend a lot more on expensive G-shocks will see value in that local after sales support.

            • @harshbdmmaster718: I did have an issue with my solar G2300s back in the day, where the watch will spontaneously go from 4 bars of battery to 1 and die, or just die straight way. Then when I press a button the watch would wake up, totally reset but with 4 bars of battery. Replacing the battery didn't help.

It was out of warranty, and the service centre said that the whole module would need to be replaced, which was practically the cost of the watch, so I just live with it. Happens far less often now, but still happens on occasion. Oh well.

              • @treefidi: Did you ever leave the watch in direct sunlight to charge? Because if it's anything the number one worst enemy for batteries is heat.

                • @harshbdmmaster718: Not at first, no, but it was one thing I tried to "charge up" the battery.

I actually had two G23x0s, and they both had same behaviour. I found a thread in a watch forum somewhere discussing the behaviour, and the theory was a bad battery contact.

    • Forgot to mention that when the Move app is on "always allow" location access, the app does not have to be in use or open in the background.
The time sync seems to be a very efficient background process which just simply connects the phone to watch via bluetooth, checks internet time data for geolocation and then sends the synced time to watch. Happens in a few seconds, I know this because I catch it once in awhile and while it's happening the watch face shows the G-shock logo for about 5 seconds and it's done.
According to the user manual it will do this every 24 hours, but either it's not for me or I am missing it because it does it while I am not looking at the watch or during the evening when the display is set to sleep.
In my experience if I take the watch off and set it down for awhile and let the Bluetooth LE disconnect, once I pick up the watch and give it some motion it triggers the flashing bluetooth and it performs the internet geolocation time sync straight away. I can observe it working like this.

How long is the waitlist for this watch? Any tips on how to build a good relationship with the AD?

    • +6

You say this every time. Please go away. It's not funny.

      • +4

What is he talking about? AD?

        • +1

What's going on? why is there a waitlist for a shitty plastic watch?

          • @rosebank: No idea, I just wonder why the bloody heck people want this watch…

            • +1

@Thrifty Dan: Well it's OOS so I guess some people wanted it

              • +1

@rosebank: Looks like. The most of these watches look like they come directly out of a gum ball machine.

        • Authorized dealer, it's like an irrelevant attempt at humour around high end watches like Rolex etc, you can look up the stories they are plentiful. Dodgy dealers, kickbacks, minimum spends, favour trading. Its pretty sad or funny depending on your taste in humour.

          • @Stefce: If I wanted a Rolex I'd just go to HK and skip the queue

          • -1

@Stefce: For me it's funny. For @Wizard et al it's not.

            • +1

@node modules: @node modules, it's funny because you dont even own a Rolex.

              • @Wizard: @Wizard i most likely don't because i use OB. i'm glad you find it funny though!

    • Why would someone buy this?

      • +1

        Not sure how to answer.

Are you asking me if I would buy this? No.

Are you asking "who would buy this?" Maybe a big big big fan of Stranger things TV show?

Anyway it is being sold at Davidjones, which means it is likely to be bought by normies and mainstream consumers. They like this kind of thing.

    • I can’t believe if anyone willingly pay over $100 for the watch

      • -1

You know how it works. It's everywhere normies love it. Slap a mickey mouse on a watch and they sell it for 5x to 10x the price of the normal version.

      • Over 100? Who will pay over $30 for this cheap watch?

  • thanks, picked up a gba800-1a for $135.20

  • I’ve seen this on catch at $120 incl delivery. I would pay a bit more for gbdh1000 version
