Ultra Wide 34" Monitors for Gaming

Hey all,

Been trying to look at gaming monitors.

Ultrawide format
1440p
165hz and above

I've looked into the aw3423dw and the dwf, the g8 oled and some of the rog and acer led versions.

I know they rank the aw3423dw as one of the best 34inch around. But I'm still abit on edge about the QC from them and the oled andfan noise.

Anyone got any opinions on anything they'd reccomend outside of the aw3423dw?

Like the XG349C or the likes?

Cheers all!

I've had the AW3423DW for months, I feel like fan noise might only be noticeable if you have an absolutely quiet room with your PC in another room.
I haven't noticed it yet and I haven't gone looking for it. If there's a sound, I can't hear it over my PC about 2m away on a shelf and my air con is definitely louder when it's running.

QC-wise I assume you mean the "damage" across the top border due to packaging being a bit tight? There is what seems like scratches but is just the plastic packaging rubbing on it, I gently cleaned/wiped mine off with a microfibre cloth and distilled water.

    • So youd go the aw3423dw hands down over anything else all over again?

I can't speak for the G8, I went the DW as it was the best available when I bought it - I have an LG OLED 65" TV and compared to that the QD-OLED on the DW is amazing.

DW vs DWF is personal choice if you want the back to be black vs white. With the DWF, you save some $, lose 10Hz but gain some extra OSD options and firmware upgradeability due to the DW having the GSync ultimate module - which honestly I'm not sure of how much it adds having never used a high refresh-rate monitor without it.

I got the DW for $1600 so I'd probably only consider them at around that price.

  • I got the Samsung G5 a few days ago, 1ms 165hz VA 34" with 1000R curve. The curve factor is great and it's been good for FPS. Only issue is washed out colours due to being VA

If you can wait - a bunch of panels were announced recently. Which either will drive the AW34xx prices down or offer 'newer' technology if you have the funds.

  • I say go bigger. The AW3821DW has been great and an upgrade from my 34inch monitor. It's been as low as $1699.

    • Def want to stick to 34" and min 165hz.

the AW3821DW isn't QD-OLED, it's not in the same class of image quality.

I would've bought a 38" in a heartbeat if it was QD-OLED. In fact, I "downgraded" from a 38" ultrawide when I went with the AW3423DW and don't regret it.

  • So youd definitely stay with oled over lcd?

Which would leave the dw and dwf or the g8. I guess i could look at the larger UW but then its just expanding 1440p to a larger screen whicj i guess would make it look "not as nice".

Man its hard chosing a monitor. LoL
