S23 will be released next month, price will go down further for s22 series

    • +4

Yes agree. Wait it out. Not long till s23 is out. HODL.

    • +1

Small chance S23 Ultra will be flat too, definitely a launch worth waiting for.

      • +11

Thank god, I like Samsung's phones but those curved screens drive me up the wall. So hard to get a good screen protector for them that doesn't require UV glue

        • +1

on the normal S22 and S22+
you can't put on a normal temper glass screen protector without it affecting the fingerprint reader..

So UV glue is required for all the phones regardless, if you want a temper glass screen protector
else you need to get the one with the finger hole cut out, which is not nice to use.

          • @pinkybrain: ozbargin tip

if you go through a few screen protectors

purchase the crap screen protectors that stick around the outside of the screen + have the sticker for the finger print sticker

And glue the rest of the screen down using this one of these
            https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/134313503713?hash=item1f45b56be1…

            • @vanyellow: How do you get the glue off?

              • +1

@Borg: Glue hardens to a soft rubber like substance and can be easily removed

Just be careful of the glue going over the sides and near the ear piece and microphone and buttons

I usually tape over them first

          • @pinkybrain: Are you serious? I had no idea. That sucks :(

My current one has the rear fingerprint reader. I thought I'd hate it but it's been quite good.

          • @pinkybrain: Thanks for your comment. Discovered recently glass protector w fingerprint not work on s22+, and we paid $40 to get it done. Argg! Had to go back get them to change it to non glass. Only refund $5. F en BS but anyway. Told mum no more going to this mickey mouse shop they should of known. Maybe one day I try this UV glue method or find another shop that does it.

            • @lollyball: could have just bought your own screen protector on ebay and do it yourself.
watch youtube tutorials if you need.
once you get the hang of it, it will not be hard to do this for any future phones you need done.

$35 is a lot of money for a plastic screen protector.

There are tutorials for UV glue method but once it has cured, it quite hard to remove, so be warn.

        • I'm also considering the S23+ though I'd miss some features of my current phone. I know the 23+ is flat.

    • +4

Fingers crossed they bring back MicroSD slot

      • +3

I wish that too but negatory.

      • Not until Apple does so.
So, looking more like never, unfortunately.

        • +2

Apple never had SD slots. Android phones did. Getting rid of them was nothing to do with Apple

          • @[Deactivated]: It was to do with apple. They realised that they can charge more for higher memory (just by looking at their neighour *Apple)

            • @shegeloaf: No it wasn't. They already had the same storage capacities as Apple. It was to free up internal space to optimise the design and capacity for other components

  • Cheaper at Officeworks however hard to find stock

For anyone who wants to play games on their mobile phone, I would not recommend this phone.

Running the wild life extreme stress test, the performance between the first and worst cycles drops to 53%

This year's SoC is being fabricated by TSMC and will have much better thermal performance (not to mention a much higer performance baseline).

If you don't mind buying a Chinese branded phone and want to play games on it, check out the vivo x90 pro plus, it's currently the same price as this but the performance blows it out of the water - I'm not sure what the build quality or UI are like though.

The only people I would suggest this phone to are people who really want the (i think) 4 years of software updates and/or who love the Samsung UI and can't wait for this year's flagship.

If I could go back in time I would actually buy the a73 instead.

    • is Vivo x90 Pro Plus officially released in Australia? i cant find major retailers stocking them atm…

      • Not yet, all imports from what I can see.

And I need to correct my last comment, it's a fair bit more expensive than this sorry (was looking at the wrong model).

Either way, I would recommend holding off to see what phones release this year with the gen 2 chip and to see some thermal performance tests on them.

        • I second that, vivo x90 pro's Dimensity 9200 is not bad, but the performance of new 8 gen 2 phones (such as xiaomi 13 pro) is really amazing.

Am I the only one who remembers the days when Samsung/Asurion had ridiculously good trade in deals (for even crappy phones) with bonus credit even on new models such that they were in the $500-$1000 range? I can't look at a Samsung deal without wondering whether those deals will come back.

    • +1

They have trade in deals, but $300 trade in does not match these discounts.

  • +11

Very strange time to buy an S22

  • +1

TSMC fabbed big Boi s23 series just around the corner if you can wait one or two months.

Price will likely be sky high at launch but you get better Sammy phone compared to current s22 models.

  • +1

Just heads up, S23 coming out soon in couple months

    • With SD chipset as well apparently.

  • +1

Great phone, highly recommend, also don't fall for the 128gb trap, get 256gb always as minimum these days. Worth waiting to see what the S23+ offers and what price you can get both for upon release at Samsung Edu Store / Partners Portal. Usually an extra $300-$500 discount with trading in your old device and some Samsung Care / Accessories freebies.

    • +4

also don't fall for the 128gb trap, get 256gb always as minimum these days.

      what trap?

not everyone need 256GB or want to pay extra for it.

the biggest data is photos and videos which you can sync to cloud and delete it or copy it out to the hdd.

At this price grab the Pixel 7 Pro, the camera is next level

    • What about the random shattering camera class?

      • Yeah, that's odd. One in a million, though. Seems to be happening in very cold climates. The glass is cooling to fast or something.

    • I prefer flat screen after 2 years with notr10+

      • Same, but for some reason few offer 6.7' in flat screens

        • +1

I know, bought a refurb one the other day, not much else comes with a screen like this and ticks the rest of the boxes.
Rumours are the 23 will be more expensive, 22+ will do.

Will the battery be an issue?

    Samsung batteries have exploded before…..

    • Will the battery be an issue?
      Samsung batteries have exploded before…..

don't put the phone in your pants else your Dack Smith will be blown to pieces

    • +1

That was quite a few generations ago

    • +1

Samsung also replaced those phones, regardless how old they were. I call that good support.

    • +1

The are S22, the deal is for S22+.

  • +2

    Exynos lmao

    • Exactly this.
I thought I would ignore the haters and give Exynos a chance, let’s just say it was straight on marketplace.
      Exyno-THANK-s.

      • Exy-nope for me too.

      • Which phone did you buy? I don't think all Exynos are bad

    • Iff its a great dirt cheap deal

  • +1

128GB is $100 cheaper for those of you who aren’t concerned about memory.

  • Bought a refurb model which arrived yesterday.
Happy so far, was worried the battery wouldnt keep up after many had issues, its ok so far.

Camera is a big step up from my old note 10+ in low light.

  • If anyone is interested in the Fold 3 256GB Black it's available for $1249.50 if you have a Westpac Bank Account and you can get a Trade In on top
