paying by BPAY or direct debit can get you up to $100 per financial year cashback

compared to how much would you lose with the 55 days interest free credit cards and missed reward points?

    • Assuming $10,000 in bills eligible for cashback?

    • -4

most of the time you're paying extra fees to use a credit card which negates those benefits even without the 1% from this offer

There are so many advantages of being with ING — but the benefits from continually jumping through hoops keeps one young, fit, and healthy

      • Virile. You forgot virile.

        • +1

          @tharlow was castrated young

        • +2

ING, sadly, can’t help with fertility (or virility). There are some things hoops can’t fix. For everything else, there’s ING

Reward points are never worth 1% of your transactions.

55 days is a maximum if you pay the bill at the start of your credit card cycle. It'll probably on average only end up like less than a month's worth of savings interest (1/12th of 4%).

      • You could get close with an ANZ Black Card, 0.8% value back in points (provided your monthly spend is under $5k). Add on interest saved and you'd be over 1% in value. You're still out the $375 annual fee though, so unless you already have the card and are covering the annual fee some other way this deal is better value.

        (1/12th of 4%)

I use multiple cards with different statement dates.

        • You'd be saving cents on the dollar a year at this stage lol

      • +1

There are definitely cards out there where you get back 1% or even more. An example (not the best example due to the high annual fee) is the Amex Platinum which returns $1 for every $88.89 spent on the card (this assumes you convert points to cash instead of to an airline).

        • That's if you can pay the bill without extra fees for Amex. A lot of utility bills will not accept it or charge more.

        • Amex Plat costs $1450 a year too…

      • +2

        Coles platinum card is 1%

  • Thanks for this. I'm with Red Energy and didn't know about this. Will switch tonight.

      I'm with Red Energy

So you're already paying too much.

  • I always forget to make 5 eligible transactions. Any ideas how to make it easy? Ideally, these transactions need to be tiny or refundable (credited to other bank)

    • Get off the couch!

    • can try beem it

      • Nope Been It no longer eligible with ING

    • Go to coles self-check out, buy 5 items individually. 10 mins. Done

      • +8

Do this but don't do separate transactions - do your normal shop then split payment by card for $0.01 - do 5 times then pay the balance of your shop with your preferred CC/GC.

        • Even better, i'll try this next time!

          • +3

@Flowerbomb: Means you dont have to carry much balance in your current account - $1 does me almost 2 years :)

    • Probably the best way is to buy some gift cards via shopback

    • Add the card to your android/apple wallet and use it as a spending account. I buy my daily coffees with mine.

I just make a payment of $2 five times to my water bill each month (via my water provider's online portal)

      • but you're losing 1% cashback on $2 x 5. Not in the spirit of Ozbargainer :)

        • I know I have to pay for water no matter what, and the stress of not having to worry about the transactions every month is fantastic!

ING was also cracking down on 1c transactions, the $2 hasn't attracted their ire the past few years :)

    • +1

I mean something automatic reoccurring, effort free :)

      • I like to manually do my payments early in the month soI can check ING's app a few days later to make sure they've registered and I've accrued the benefits for next month.

    • What i do at either coles or woolies at the start of the month is buy some things at the self checkouts and pay via split payments. I pay $0.50 then $0.40 then $0.30 then $0.20 then $0.10 with ING card (tap 5 times) and This way i know ive done my 5 transactions, Then the balance is paid with another card ie HSBC 2% cashback card. This way i get 2% cashback on the balance of what i buy aswell :)

      I buy 5 X $1 Amazon gift cards - easy as if you're already using Amazon……

  • This is significantly short of their previous PayWave cash back offer, with a heap of conditions. ING keeps taking things away. It’s a real shame.

    • On the other hand, you can use HSBC for 2% contactless cashback, and get this rebate too.

  • Do you reckon this is for the Orange One credit card, or only the Everyday debit?

    • +1

      Only Everyday

  • damn, I just paid the water bill today on the citi diners card via paypal.

    • Don't stress too much, there's an $100 rebate annual limit per financial year so you can just pay your bill next cycle.

      • +1

lol at 1% pretty easy to hit $100

  • -1

Sounds like a double Dutch roll:
Give you 1% to take the 4.5% away…..

  • How long does it take for the cashback to come through after paying a bill?

    • Normally pretty instant
However I had some occasions that it was missed..
ING told me may take up to 30 days

  • anyone bpay qld rego and get cash back via ing or zip? ing pdf terms says utilities only like gas water power . QLD rego says bpay must be from a savings or cheque account not credit card so i wonder if ZIP would work?
