Opinion: Subscription Based Toilet and Other Paper Services

Hi all

Wondering what the experiences are of people who subscribe to one of the many the plethora of toilet paper, kitchen paper and tissue box suppliers.

A) Is there value for money compared to the options at brick and mortar grocery stores? i.e. kleenex, quilton, sorbent, confidence. Is quality that much better to justify a higher price point?

B) Is the ecological footprint that much lower, adding in shipping, etc.? Only some options are unbleached and many appear to use bamboo. FSC certified wood seems to be used otherwise even in store bought brands.

Examples:

  • Who gives a crap
  • Spacewhite
  • Ecocheeks
  • Emotions
  • Bambu

P.S.

  • I subscribe to baby wipes already and do recognise the quality difference there.
  • I usually bulk buy my toilet paper based on what is on sale at the stores

We personally found that using Who Gives a Crap, you tend to use it quicker compared to Quilton

    • probably because you need 30 sheets per wipe if you don't want your fingers to accidentally break through the paper

  • I use Amazon, gotta check the pricing though at times.

    • What brands do you get?
Sometimes they do have cheaper bulk options e.g. 60 rolls of Kleenex.

  • You don't really signup to who gives a crap because its cheaper.
It's because you don't want to have to keep remembering toilet paper.
Part profits go to people who don't have toilets

B Eco wise its up to you if you care about that sort of thing if it is "that much difference"

I found Who Gives a Crap was like wiping my a$$ with 80 grit sandpaper that disintegrated at any point of contact.

    • So you're saying it's great - one of the best? A solid 5 out of 7?

  • I prefer heated seats on my Bimmer so here go my savings.
Then I walk to the beach where there is plenty of water to clean up….

Who gives a crap is manufactured in China. So a potential consideration is the potentially increased carbon footprint for distribution

    • That is one of the considerations. How many of the eco-friendly claims hold up from point of origin to consumption. I am not sure the premium for some of these rolls is worth it if quality is not too different from store bought brands.

Reading the above, who gives a crap seems to be lower in quality in terms of integrity whilst wiping.

Personally, I use a bidet that my brother in law hooked up to a disused diesel generator. While load at times, nothing compares to a juiced up soda stream Karchering your brown lips.
