What’s The Best Way to Spend 100k Asia Miles?

Hello Ozbargainers!

I just realised my points are about to expire on April this year… and I’ve never used them before and don’t really know how they work.

I’ve had a look through PointHacks but I’m just wondering if I have to fly before April? Or can I book first and travel later in the year.

I heard a business flight to Europe via Cathay would be a good way to spend the points.

Would did everyone else use them for?

Thanks!

  • but I’m just wondering if I have to fly before April? Or can I book first and travel later in the year.

Book it now before expiry (and travel later). Be sure of your dates etc before booking though (because trying to do anything, like refunding to expired points etc, that's not within their usual processes is guaranteed be a huge headache!)

  • You can book now and fly after April - flights to HK/Europe in Business on Cathay represent the 'best' value for your points. Qatar is another good one if you can find it.

Before you make any grand travel plans i'd be checking what's actually available to book as an award seat as these are extremely limited, particularly in premium cabins

You can also use on other One World Airlines including Qantas so if you get stuck and can't find anything to take you overseas you can just book Qantas Domestic Flights rather than letting the points go to waste.

  • There are business class seats available from Sydney to Paris this year around late August, I just looked the other day. But you need more if you want a return ticket. If you have a credit card that allows you to transfer more points into the program, the expiration date will extend by another 18 months.

  • Asia miles don't really expire unless you are very lazy. You just have to generate + or - 1 point every 18 months
