HP Wireless Mouse X6000, What Is The Top Button for?

Hi all,

I bought this mouse as a spare a few years ago. I'm hoping others did also and can enlighten me as to the function of the top button, behind the left/right mouse buttons. I never used it.

I sent the mouse to a friend as a gift w/other things and he's running Linux. The mouse doesn't seem to want to be "seen" by Ubuntu or Mint.

Regardless, I cannot find ANY literature for this mouse. HP has been contacted, no reply.

  • Speed scroll. Loads of mice have this. Press button and drag down to scroll down pages quickly instead of continuously flicking the scroll wheel.

On some Logitechs it disables the scroll wheel ratcheting system for smooth speed scrolling too.

Edit: Looks like the latter from the quick setup sheet: https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/255280/101050/c0346993…

    • I've seen that HP download, which doesn't actually state WHAT is does? Even for M$haft. Nothing.

We're trying to get info as he's using Linux, yet even M$ info, for Windows, is non-existent.

      • It does, the arrows show you different scrolling speeds when toggling the button.

You can say MS nowadays instead of M$, it's not 2005 anymore.

The 10 year old mouse isn't made for Linux, they have no obligation to assist or support it.

        • M$ still fits, considering how they're attempting to landfill millions of PC's which are capable of running 11 (the OS M$ said would never see the light of day as 10 was the last OS from M$?). Basically, they're liars.

And the setup sheet is, well, shite.

          Thanks for your reply

  • Hyper scrolling?
    Smooth or clicky scrolling?

    • Where is the HP info on this mouse?? FFS.

  • Thanks all.

I'd hoped someone else had this mouse and could speak to it.

    Appreciate the replies.

    Ta.
