Fair Trading is toothless tiger and they can't do anything if the business refuses to offer any remedy.

    • I have to agree. When I needed them all they were willing to do for me was tell me I was in the right. Which wasn't any use when the company involved's proposed "remedy" left me worse off.

      • TBH they was waste of tax payers money as they can't force the business and always tend to ask complainant to seek remedy via tribunal.

        • Criticism on this issue likely very fair however Fair Trading do a lot more than consumer complaints
Possibly every public service sector wastes money - just saying not a total waste

Also just image the level of ridiculous complaints they get daily from some 'Karen' s out there lol

@Noblejoker: Personally I have lodged 3 complaints in last 15 years. Even though they verbally agreed I was right but they couldn't do anything and asked me to lodge a claim via tribunal.

Other people may have positive experience, however I have stopped reaching out to them.

They may also be making policies but again this is of no benefit for individuals if they can't enforce remedy for genuine complaints.

With a large pattern of complaints they do commence legal action against the business…

MSY for example have been taken to court multiple times by Fair Trading

Most businesses would give in with a full refund when Fair Trading contacts them. Depends on the size of the business and value of the transaction though.

@Thrawn: The ACCC bought the case against MSY, they are different to NSW Fair Trading.
