Sure Feed Microchip Pet Feeder $159 + Delivery ($0 to Major Areas) @ Pet Circle

90

Feels excessive for a feeder, but not many microchip feeders out there. Usually seen around $190+

Bought one around a week ago to keep a friendly stray from eating our cats food (our cats super shy).
Took a few days for him to get used to - either confused because they cant smell any food when closed, or gets startled when it opens. Finally figured it out himself last night. Stray cat cant get to it now as well.

Huge bonus the fact that there's a seal on the bowl which keeps wet food from drying out.

tip - Put a greenie on the front section of the top lid. Cat will smell it, walk in, and as the lid opens, the treat will drop into the bowl.

Bought that last year and can recommend when you have two or more cats with different dietary requirements. I recommend to also get the Hub.
    Note: It is battery operated.

    • I didnt end up getting the hub version mainly because it needs to be connected via Ethernet to a modem and i have no more ports but can definitely see how it will help for dietary needs~

      • I can't even find the Connect version for sale anywhere…

We have two of these for our cats. They've made our lives so much easier, now we don't have to keep putting the non-greedy cat's bowl away all the time. They've both worked flawlessly for the past five years. Expensive, but worth it.

Our cat found a loophole in it and squeezes his head in from the other side and fills him mouth before the shutter closes.

I use an unlimited hopper for my cat and fortunately he seems to eat the right amount to not get fat. Maybe he just doesn't like dry food enough to get fat on it.

    • Not worried about kidney disease? Possibly ok if your cat drinks lots of water but not a good long-term idea.

      • I just had a look at him and he's probably a little overweight, he's not chunky but has like a blanket of skin that pools up when he lays down. Looks fine when standing up. He is going through the dry food very slowly though, I bought two 2.5kg bags middle of last year and I only just had to open the second one. I give him 130g of wet food per day which websites recommend.

I've also stopped letting him outside once a day, I used to let him out the backyard where the fences are too high so he's safe, but recently he's just been going to the side fence and making a terrible noise arguing with neighbour cat. Neighbour cat jumped over one day and scratched him bad. I decided enough was enough so he's strictly an inside cat now, but maybe that extra exercise playing outside was keeping him trim.

I guess I should ask my vet to check for kidney disease. He's getting old, I think about 11 years old, not too sure as he's from a shelter. I worry about finding him dead one day. He sleeps with me so it would be distressing to wake up to a dead cat in bed with me.

        • Not the weight which is the issue with dry food really. Does he drink a lot? If not he's a candidate for urinary tract and kidney problems. Better to limit their daily intake of dry food, esp as they get older.

          • @Igaf: He has an hopper thing for water too, a huge jug so I don't know how much he drinks. He vomits sometimes, there's one flavour of food that he wolfs down quick which I think is the cause, beef cubes in gravy. Any flavour with fish he eats slowly, like won't touch it for hours then eats it slowly. During the heatwave last week he vomited then cuddled up to me and he felt very hot, I put it down just to the heat. The AC runs only in certain rooms so if he doesn't stay in those rooms then he will feel the heat, but he does have access to all rooms so it's up to him whether to stay in a cold room or a hot one.

  • Big fan of these!

Very pricey but awesome price at the moment. Already have 2 feeders for my 3 cats and no issues to report. Do take 4 C size batteries though

I have a extremely scared old cat who uses this so the kitten doesn’t push him out of the way. It took me about 2 months to get him used to it and he still gets confused sometimes when he can’t smell the food but for what it does it’s a very good unit.

    Purchased. Thanks OP.
Two rescues. The girl loooves her food. The boy has the attention span of a goldfish, has a few bites and wanders away so I put the bowl away to prevent the girl from hoovering up two meals; later he comes and meows/ scratches the sofa/ bites your toes for attention to let you know he is hungry. Heres to hopefully(!) sleeping an entire night without having to get up and feed the cat at 4am.

    • That's what I'm hoping. Our cat wakes us up every morning between 5am and 6am to be feed. I'm hoping we can use this, he can feed himself and we can sleep in.

    • Hihi! Just curious to see how your cats are taking to it. Everything went well?

  • We have one of these for our smaller cat who use to always get bullied out of her dinner by our big fat cat.
If they're still the same design, they require 4x C batteries, which are expensive and usually non rechargeable.
Instead, we use 4x AA Eneloop rechargeables (black), and just slide them into 3D printed spacers that make them "C batteries". (you can also buy them off ebay, aliX etc).
Only have to change them once every 3-4 months.
Also, if you have trouble with the cats microchip being picked up, you can buy a tag for their collar which works much better (we have their wi-fi catflap too and the tag was needed due to the cats microchip being so far back)

  • We had one of these but it used to get dirty so quickly and the bowls were a pain to clean.

How so? They are just a basic plastic bowl with a rubber lip. Quick blast under the tap and they are clean

      • Are you cleaning them daily? The food stock and needs a scrub plus my cats got it around the bowl placement area as well.

        • Are they dishwasher safe?

          • +1

@sween64: We put the food bowls in the top drawer of the dishwasher. No issues at all.
