Robot Vaccum Recommendation / Advice

Am interested in buying a robot vacuum however am a little overwhelmed by the amount of choices and features available.

Our circumstances are:
- approx 90 square metre, single storey home
- All hardwood floors + tiled bathroom and rug in living room (no carpet)
- No pets or kids
- Generally tidy home with no cables or items strewn across the floor

Looking for a vacuum to do a daily maintenance vacuum / mop to remove dust, light sand/soil which may come in from shoes and crumbs from kitchen / dining area.

Hopefully can largely cut down how often we vacuum / mop ourselves but not expecting it to completely replace it.

Approx $700 would be max budget I’d consider however hoping given circumstances a cheaper option could be feasible.

  • I know Roborock vacs are usually rated pretty well.

Vacuum wars did a good video reviewing them all couple months back.

Bought a Roborock S5 Max on the latest Kogan deal so far and it’s been great (also recently picked up a Dyson gen5 detect). Mopping isn’t the greatest as it’s the equivalent of dragging a wet cloth across the floor, but I’m pretty happy with vacuuming performance. Not fussed on the lack of auto empty dock - as you’ll need to give your vacuum a bit if TLC here and there anyway.

    • This. Assume the mopping function is useless.

But just to help keep the place a bit dust free when you're out of the house it works well.

…and I also have a Roborock and found the app to be quite good with the geospatial mapping/etc. Pity you aren't in Sydney otherwise I'd sell you mine for peanuts which has sat unused since we moved to a double storey carpeted place last year and have kids toys everywhere rendering it relatively useless :(

      • that mopping on S5 same as on S7 ? the S7 it says something about vibrating not sure just gimmicks or better than dragging

        • Oh mine doesn’t vibrate. It just literally drags a slightly damp or moist cloth on the floor.

lol I'd buy it off you, if we weren't in a "double storey carpeted place…. and have kids toys everywhere…"

        • Unfortunately it's one of those things where the dream of a robot cleaner sounds great, but then once you get it you realise that life challenges can make it somewhat less of a reality. In our old apartment, pre-kids, hard floor, very square layout… it worked great. We had to tidy up a little beforehand each time just to take any obstacles off the floor but it did a great job.

In all fairness, if everyone just did that we only have a discussion about the Roomba mk 1.

  • Have been using Ecovacs Deebot T9+ for over an year and quite happy with it. Its vacuuming is great and so does the mop function. It does to and fro motion with the mop and is able to take out the crumbs and smaller things stuck to floor. As is with any robot vacuum corners need to be cleaned manually as their design does not allow them to reach the corners. It also comes with the auto empty dock. The price is higher than your indicated budget.

  • Hi. Anyone with 2 floors house with a robot, how does it work? Im guessing:
We set maps for each floor, then we carry the robot (just thr unit, not the charging station i hope) to a particular floor we need, it will work then stop (due to the charging staion is on different floor)
