Surface Pro 7+ Smashed Screen, Worth It to Repair?

I have a Surface Pro 7+ with a smashed screen, it's out of warranty*. Aside from the screen and a slightly dented corner, it works fine. Is it worth having repaired? How much would a repair like this cost, any recommended repair shops in Melbourne?

* long story, this Surface [A] got the screen smashed early 2022, and a replacement Surface [B] was shipped. Retailer did not ask for A back, so I kept it in a drawer just in case. It's almost a year, and since A is still functional, I thought I'd get some use out of it.

  • and a replacement Surface [B] was shipped

A was damaged in transit or what?

If you already have B working, just use A with a monitor maybe?

    • no, it was an accident. I had accidental damage insurance, so I claimed it and they sent B as the replacement. A shouldn't be under warranty anymore since the warranty replacement was B.

Apologies, I guess I didn't word it clearly enough.

  • MS will repair them (or send you a refurb). But if you don't have a maintenance contract then it will be pricey to the point of not good value for money. As the person above says if you want you can use it docked with a monitor, but I'd be concerned with the fragments of glass getting in your eye (from your fingers touching the unit).

    • i'd probably isolate it somehow and recommend an external kb/mouse…

    • Sorry, was unclear in original post. MS did send me a replacement (Surface B) because of the accidental damage warranty. But they didn't ask for A back, and it's still functional.

I am concerned about glass fragments as well. I'm thinking that as long as the screen-repair is a reasonably small fraction of the cost of a new one, then this may still be worth repairing.

  • Based on this deal, https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/751509 its not worth replacing the screen.

  • I believe screen replacement cost $500, or much more from official MS agent. Correct?

If so, not worth it. Sell as it, or use with external monitor.
I have an older model that I use as a home server.

Surface would be nice machines if not so hard to repair or upgrade!
