[Resolved] How to Unsubscribe from The Sizzle

I noticed yesterday The Sizzle charged my credit card $50 for another 12 months subscription. I don't want to renew so I have to go through this strange setup where you have to go to this link ( https://thesizzle.com.au/manage ) and enter your email address to get a one time password so that you can enter the portal to cancel your subscription.
However no password is ever sent to your email address (even after trying many times on different browsers) so you cannot unsubscribe. I've tried emailing about this broken website but no reply. Any ideas how to cancel and delete my credit card info?

    Maybe reach out to owner?
Looks like they were active about 2 hours ago here.

Thanks for the tag - wouldn't have seen this otherwise.

  • Decryption is very online, so I am surprised you haven’t had an email response yet.

However no password is ever sent to your email address

This is how the the owner of Sizzle now lives in the Bahamas.

    • What's the owner's opinions on pinning weasels?

This guy emailed me last night and I responded within 20 minutes. I never received a response back:

    https://memes.thesizzle.com.au/mark.png

Seeing as he didn't even get my response and didn't get the OTP email from Chargebee, I suspect his email is playing up (or has shitlisted thesizzle.com.au).

I will message the bloke here on OzBargain to follow up.

You forgot to blur Mark's surname twice ;)

      • +2

        Fixed! Hopefully nobody saw it.

Op better not leave us hangingggggg

        • +1

You can still see it (I can anyway). You're going to have to delete the image and reupload to your website I think

    • Ah good to see you in here. I never received the reply you showed in screenshot. No reply was received by email, not in junk folder either
WHat's the best way to get the one time password so I can access the portal?

      • +7

I only have your email address, so the only way to send it is via email - if your email doesn't work, you can't manage your account.

For the benefit of people reading this post, Hudcon replied to my message on Ozbargain, confirmed they wanted to cancel their subscription and I gave them a refund for the unused portion of their subscription.

        • thanks for the pro rata refund, you may want to troubleshoot the reason why i didn't receive the one time password email as others may possibly have the same problem

            @x x: You're using hotmail dude.

Do you have MFA enabled? If not, you've probably been hacked and have email rules setup to hide things from you.

            • +2

@Typical16-bitEnjoyer: Or accidentally blocked the domain. I had accidentally blocked all Gmail addresses and was wondering why I wasn't getting e-mails from my friend until I realised. (Also on Hotmail)

          • +3

@x x: I know why you didn't receive the OTP - your email server isn't receiving them.

My server is sending emails out but you aren't getting them because Hotmail is notorious for silently filtering emails from random servers it deems unusual. My domain's email reputation is strong and not on any blacklists, so its your server that has an issue not mine. You might want to ask Hotmail why they're blocking legitimate emails from a domain and IP with no history of abuse.

            The alternative is either:

            • Collecting more info from my customers (e.g: phone numbers, so I can send SMS) so I have an alternative method to contact them, which nobody wants.

            or

            • Make users set their own password on registration, which increases friction and is kinda useless as 90% of customers never need to log in except to cancel or change credit card details when it expires. High chance of using weak passwords or forgetting passwords, or not even bothering to register.

Email based one-time passwords are the easiest option for everyone and works 99% of time. It sucks you had a bad experience but in less than 24 hours you were refunded instantly, all you had to do was contact me asking for a refund.

            • @decryption: yes it could be a hotmail thing if other hotmail accounts are also not getting it

Curious, why use a system like that where a one time password needs to be issued every time you want to log in? Wouldn't it be easier to log in with your email address and password?

              • @x x: Why would you continue to bother a service you've cancelled with irrelevant questions since you've, you know, cancelled?

              • +6

@x x: Because then that means I'd have to store a password, which can be hacked/stolen if I don't do it properly. It's not worth the risk considering how infrequently subscribers log-in to the portal.

Like I said in the previous message, I could "make users set their own password on registration, which increases friction and is kinda useless as 90% of customers never need to log in except to cancel or change credit card details when it expires. High chance of using weak passwords or forgetting passwords, or not even bothering to register.

@decryption: I can attest how bad email filtering on Hotmail/MSN/Outlook is. It's so bad that we have deliberately turned off email 2FA for users with those email addresses, resulting a few of them getting compromised earlier this week.

For emails coming from OzBargain, we've set up SPF, DKIM & DMARC all correctly, and all out-bound emails are signed by our email server. However every now and then (with no explanation), Hotmail users would not receive our newsletters or notification emails. Server logs show that Hotmail would give us status "250 2.1.5 Queued mail for delivery" yet the email is nowhere to be found — not even in the spam folders. And yet spam/phishing emails that don't come our IP address and aren't DKIM signed by us — somehow still got delivered to those poor Hotmail users' inboxes.

              Just weird.

              • @scotty: Exact same errors I am getting with The Sizzle. Incredibly frustrating as around 15% of my subscribers use one of Microsoft's free email services. Doesn't impact Office365 users with their own domain however.

              • @scotty: Are you signed up for https://sendersupport.olc.protection.outlook.com/snds/ ? I can't say it's been super-useful, but I do get to see what emails are marked as junk by MS users, and they're always legitimate notification emails. There's also https://support.microsoft.com/supportrequestform/8ad563e3-28… for specific support

                • @TRS-80: Yes I've signed up & added my email server's IP address for monitoring. No, it's not useful at all and I think they are also phasing it out (received an email a while ago trying to remove the IP address I've added).

I am not dodgy and the ability to unsubscribe and get an instant refund is super easy - this guy just isn't receiving the email containing to link to log in to the portal and cancel.

7 years running The Sizzle and this is the first time I've ever had anyone not be able to self-cancel their subscription and get a refund.

    • +3

hahaha responded to the email in 8 minutes, responded here in 29 minutes.

      Yep, dodgy. /s

    Well OP? Update

    We're waiiiiiiting

lol it's been half an hour and you think i'm reading this forum all day

      • +4

Decryption responded to you quicker than you responded to me, and you still didn't answer the question.

        • what's your question?

          • @x x: What's the update? Resolved?

            • @Typical16-bitEnjoyer: yes, got a pro rata refund

              • +3

                @x x: Cool.

Edit the title to say Resolved and/or edit your post to say "My hotmail sucks and this was a complete non-issue and not the fault of Sizzle"

                • +1

@Typical16-bitEnjoyer: Nah, easier to just leave this here as a drive-by so the next time this happens it can be shown as systemic. /s

@Seraphin7: I’m actually still surprised how op had an issue with the service… and the first point of call was… asking ozbargain forums?

                      @Jimothy Wongingtons:

and the first point of call was… asking ozbargain forums?

You are being a tad bit harsh.

To be fair to @Hudcon, he did reach out to Anthony first.
He never received Anthony's reply because of issues with Hotmail.

                      • +2

@DoctorCalculon: Actually re reading the op, yes you are right. I am being too harsh.

                        It’s been a long day.

At least it’s all sorted now.
