Intex Excursion Pro K1 Kayak w/ Aluminium Oar $220.15 + Delivery ($0 with OnePass) @ Catch

20

Been eyeballing this for beach fishing for a while cos of good reviews and the ability to transport it without roof racks.
Not the cheapest ever, but its best price Ive been able to find recently (next best is $299 online from Costco).
I ordered with a free OnePass trial for free delivery, but deal appears to be "Price Drop 1 Day Left", so best to get in quick.

Just be very careful of the weather when using any inflatable kayak or SUP. Any amount of wind will make paddling a nightmare, especially if you plan to fish at the same time. Anything above a 10 knot breeze and you will struggle to paddle upwind, even with the tide/current behind you.

If the wind is offshore (coming from land and blowing out to sea), the conditions might look calm near the shore, but you could easily get pushed out quicker than you can paddle back.

Always carry an anchor and enough rope for the depth. Mobile phone and PFD are a must. Also PLB if not within phone coverage.

Wise words. Well written. Sound advice

    • Cheers, would an anchor be overkill in a bay with max 3m deep water or still necessary you think? If so any recommendations? BCF and Anaconda seem to have similar $50 options at cheapest

      • What bay?

I fish from an inflatable SUP and would never take it more than 100m from shore. The SUP does not catch much wind, but is near impossible to paddle upwind. An inflatable kayak would have 5x the sail area.

Stick to sheltered estuaries and calm days. Only paddle where you're able to get out and walk your craft back to your starting point.

As an anchor, I use a 5kg gym weight attached to a rope. No sharp bits to puncture the SUP.

        • Summer Bay, just past the caravan park. If you see the kiosk youve gone too far

  • It's a paddle, not an oar.

Talkin' out of turn? That's a paddlin'. Lookin' out the window? That's a paddlin'. Starin' at my sandals? That's a paddlin'. Paddlin' the school canoe? Oh, you better believe that's a paddlin'

  • I cannot wait until the inflatable fishing pedal kayaks start to come below $500. One day…

OP this is not suitable for any sort of beach with waves. It doesn't look to be self draining. A couple of waves will fill it and make it unstable and possibly impossible to manoever.

You get what you pay for. This is for creeks and small rivers with little current, you will be hard pressed to paddle upstream in it. I wouldn't even recommend it on large dams, as they can get quite dangerous if there is decent wind which causes a chop for inflatables, canoes and kayaks like this.

At a minimum you need a hard plastic Sit on Top for beach launches. If you are looking at a proper surf break, the kayak needs to be around the 3.5m minimum. This will allow you to play in the surf.

If you want to look at a proper kayak for beach launches look at the Stealth Pro Fisha range. This is what the boys launching from South East Qld beaches use to go out and catch the big spanish macks in summer.

    • Its got a hole for that

      • 😂😂 if you think that little hole is going to drain your deck in time, your definately going to need one of these https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/ocean-signal-ocean-signa… if you want to see the tail end of 2023.

Thanks mate, ill get the $4k high yield investment kayak next time so everyones happy

          • @yewman: To be honest, your better off saving your $220 and spending that on fishing gear.

Fishing from an inflatable kayak in the bay is not an enjoyable experience.
