    1. What's the bargain?
    2. You need to provide better description of your service offering. ie. why is this is different than a $2 tag with a phone number
  • +4

Word of warning, you need to pay a subscription for the features that are useful. Found out when it arrived. Big sad.

    • +6

That's a bit misleading, I see no mention of this in the description. Cheaper to get a normal tag with your phone number then.

Also 1st post was removed for sockpuppeting which basically means they were caught manipulating the guidelines in order to try & make money from the community.

This is very sad to hear people jumping very quickly to conclusions. We created our first post with a separate account that was against the Ozbargain rules. Thus it was banned. After that, we discussed the case with the admins and fixed it, so it is all under one account now. If we wanted to cheat, we'd create a new account rather than using this one.

We are offering you tags pretty much at cost to help protect all our pets because we care about the lost pet problem and want to solve it. Our tags would last at least 3-5 years compared to about a year or two for the engraved ones. And a massive free service on top of that.

@WatchNerd: You are welcome to get that one if you believe that it it's better for you and you don't see value provided by other Findpet's tools (can be used without our tags too) and the volunteer community. It is the same as discussing what is better: a push-button cellphone or a smartphone with supporting software and apps ecosystem.

          • @WatchNerd: Yo its must be the same guy from the shi** barber shop again LMAO

Findpet is a freemium service. Most of the services are offered for free, except the ones that are costly to provide, i.e. automated photo matching using computer vision with associated automated alerts, SMS notifications, etc. But the free basic plan offers extensive functionality to protect any pet. Premium features are mostly nice to have ones and we see them as volunteer contributions to keep the service floating to afford offering free tier to those who can’t afford or do not want to get premium protection.

Hi there, can I confirm that the feature I wanted most is free. Which is QR code scan location etc.

If not why doesn't it state that on the sale page? I just chalked it up to me not doing my research but I can't see where it says what features are free?

        • -1

Currently, tag scan location based on IP address is in the free tier, and location collected through the browser, if shared, is in the premium tier. We are considering moving all location data to the premium tier later, if we do it, we'll grandfather current terms for existing pets.

We don't post all the details here as it doesn't make sense - we'd need to repost all the website content. You can research our website to decide if this is a product that you or your pet need or benefit from. Detailed tier comparison could be found at the end of the pet registration/reporting process.

if you have more questions, we'd be happy to give any clarification here or via contact form on our website.

          • +3

@findpet: Ok so you admit that people can quite easily buy the tag from this sale, never having read that there is a subscription required for all features? Just as I did?

            • @noobshoes: Your statement is incorrectly calling all services premium. Not all of the services are premium, in fact most of the Findpet service is free. All services that are crucial to protecting pets are free, premium are some nice to have features that most of the customers are happy to live without.

I will repeat, you do not need a premium subscription to use Findpet! Nor you need our tag to use the remaining pet protection tools (microchip registry and biometric pet protection) to protect your pet. Nor these features require premium subscription either. Most of the users settle at the free tier and are absolutely happy with that.

If you have previously bought a tag from us and you are not happy with it, please contact us via the email you will find in the tag packaging and we will organize a refund for you.

To answer your question, the ad was amended immediately after publishing with the following statement (it was already amended at the time you wrote the comment): Findpet is a freemium service, where most of the basic services are provided for free, while some advanced tools require a premium subscription (some include tag).

Waste of money. Ain’t no one who finds a dog doing much more than ringing a mobile number or dropping that dog at the local vet.

  • +2

This joke of a product/service again.

It's much easier to simply have mobile phone number and address on a much cheaper tag. Something like this aluminium one that I bought a few months ago when it was posted to ozbargain https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/134001996167

Someone else here has listed a stainless steel tag with double sided engraving for half the price of this one.

And to shut down OP's argument from last tim, when they were by their own admission apparently using sockpuppet accounts and/or not declaring affiliation: nobody is getting doxxed or getting their phone number on spam lists because a scammer read it off a dog tag

Edit: as someone who has found and returned a few dogs, there's no way I'd be scanning a QR code. That dog's going to get their microchip read

I wanted to give your product a chance, after reading the negative comments. And rather than just poo-pooing your product, I'll provide you some feedback to maybe help you.

I think what convinced me not to buy, was the fact that nowhere that I could see, does your website ever state there's an ongoing subscription that in any way limits the list of features.
Instead it lists all the features as well as stating multiple times that pet registry is free.
I assume I need to create an account on your page before I get any of that information, which is a bit ridiculous.
You haven't even listed what the subscription prices are anywhere in this post nor your numerous comments.

I will say simply that your product seems over-engineered to solve for a problem that doesn't need an overly complicated solution.
This is not helped by the lack of transparency which comes across as being misleading.

I think if you edited your page and actually set out the costs and what's available free vs premium, you'd find yourself with a lot more satisfied customers. But at the moment people see your page expecting everything, before being sprung with a tiered service.

I, too, have found it difficult to see exactly how much I'd need to pay should I purchase this tag.

This is coming from a perspective of wanting to find out how much I'd need to pay monthly, instead of whether I need to pay.

Thanks a lot for such comprehensive and useful feedback. The service grew up from a free listing board, and there was no need for a dedicated pricing table. We offered pretty much the same set of services for free and premium plan. The premium plan appeared much later at the end of pet registration mostly as a way to support the service. Now, as we add more services and tools, the tiers start to diverge more clearly.

Yes, you are right, currently, you need to create an account on the platform before you see the pricing table. I clearly see your concern and we'll address it tomorrow. So hopefully, you could see the pricing table on a separate page by the day. Please, come and check it tomorrow evening.

@sassypants We want to offer you a free tag for this great suggestion. Please, DM me with your shipping details and we'll send it next week.

    • This, 100%. Being purposefully dishonest by hiding pricing is not ok.

      • Why do you always suppose bad things in others? Have you ever tried to build a large service with limited resources where you need to juggle multiple priorities?

      • We received a suggestion to add a pricing table and listened to your legit concerns. We now see that it's important to you and we already added it to the website's footer (you are welcome to check).

    • @sassypants We have added a pricing section in the footer of the website. Great idea, we should have done it earlier… :disappointed:

  • Register your pets with Australasian Animal Registry:

    https://www.aar.org.au/

Just a once off payment and they send you a tag.

    • Findpet tag is a one-off payment too if you are happy with the free plan (most users are). And completely free if you don't need a tag, which is especially important for cats as they dont's like wearing collars, so you can rely on Findpet's microchip registry or biometric identification tools (photo matching technology).

      • Don't really need one for cats here in Brisbane because it is illegal for your cat to leave your property.

        • I wonder how one would explain this law to the cat?

  • Hi @findpet

Do you accept any kind of animal for registration? If so that really interests me because most places only do dogs and cats.

Do you have any cases where the photo matching biometric identification has reunited a pet and it's human? It sounds cool, but I'm just a little bit skeptical I guess.

    • +1

The Computer Vision model is trained mainly on cats and dogs as they comprise the majority of registered pets, but we saw some good results on parrots and some other birds.

      • Thank you. It sounds really interesting.
