  • Is the first router also an Asus?

If so, the Asus RT-AC86U can work as an AiMesh node if you wanted to set up a wifi mesh network.

  • Can you connect to the AC86U, but not connect to the internet through it? If so, then your WAN settings on the AC86U will need to be fixed.

Do your WAN settings look like this?

It also gets more complicated if you want to avoid double NAT.

  • no other router is a dlink .

yea ill need to have a play with the wan settings. Ill prolly hook a lappy up and have a play

  • An easy straightforward way is to plug the Asus into your pc from a LAN port on your router. Set it up as a normal router with the prompts. Then go to the lan section and change the router ip to the same as your original network range for example: OG router is 192.168.1.1 Asus is 192.168.0.1
So change the Asus to 192.168.1.100 ( this last number must be different from your OG router, I chose I high enough number that it wouldn’t be used by any other device on your original network. You should check this is available or choose another non assigned IP on your OG network if 100 isn’t available.)
Next while still in the lan page on the Asus disable dhcp server.
Plug the Asus into the old router via a LAN port not WAN. LAN to LAN.
    Connect to new Asus wifi.
    Profit.
This will mean you can still control any devices on your OG network such as Sonos while connected to your new Asus wifi.

  • If this seems incomprehensible and you still need help dm me or tag me and I’ll write something better when not on my phone at work @Gros21
