  • Price beat at Officeworks

Note this charges using a proprietary magnetic charging cable, as opposed to the more ubiquitous Micro USB or USB-C. It takes 90 minutes for a full charge.

    • No luck. the model numbers aren't matching

      • Huh, single digit difference in the part number. Looks identical in the images though.

      • So they won't price beat then?

        • +1

Nope - Not in my case (Syd CBD)

          • +1

@M1lad: I guess I could try my luck but yeah I hate it when they are finicky over exact numbers

  • $9.71 shipping to QLD. Not too bad.

  • We use these at work. They're not bad at all.

  • I used these until Bluetooth earbuds came out.
    It killed the market

I think the advantage of these are the microphone. I have a wired Poly headset and the microphone is excellent when in a noisy room, while earbuds pick up too much noise, or they suppress my voice too much to the point i sound like Stephen hawking.

    • +2

I have both, still use these for the excellent microphone that gets forgotten so often. I dont think it ever killed them.

      • I have killed about 2 of these but keep getting them as they are great.

    • This picks up the call when you remove them from the stand, right?
      Stand included?

  • I had(have technically, it's still lying around somewhere) one. Updated to the newer model later on but this worked well for a time. That said I always had issues with calls, it'll temporarily disconnect from the initial call then I have to force the call to be on the headset again (after which it was fine).

This model is quite old. 50 bucks though if you need to make a lot of calls/call while using both hands a lot it's not a bad deal and you will definitely sound better to the other side than most standard BT earphones/buds.

    • I'm looking for something for phone calls only. This looks great, however Rtings rated it so so low :-(

    Ozbargain circa 2008

  • Bought one based off YouTube videos, the fit is bad and noise cancelling people talking in the background isn’t good.

    • The design style is a give away

    • noise cancelling people talking in the background isn’t good.

Do you mean the person you're talking to hearing people in your background talking? Or you can't hear the person you're talking to because of other people talking in your background?

  • Legend Bluetooth Mobile Headset

Does it have infinite battery life because legends live for ever.

  • I have a Voyager Legend when Poly hasn't bought out Plantronics. It seems this is exactly the same model. The magnetic charging cable is very small. If you use it a lot, better purchase the (not cheap) charging case as well.

The rubber portion (which is the entire middle part) can get grimy fast, and ages quick. Also it doesn't hang on to your ear like you think, more like floating on there with no further support. It's a problem for me as my ears are not extended outwards that much, and I wear glasses so the legs is further squeezing out the headset. The noise cancellation is great back then but not to compete with Bose QC35/45 nor AirPods Pro 2 or alike. The only edge is that it has a few movie appearance, so wearing it makes you look like a spy or something I guess?

The demo video for its predecessor was pretty cool in my opinion: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=niEM9weBk7s Remember this is from more than a decade ago!

Note Voyager 5200 (either with or without UC) is the "latest" model in this shape and design (which is also several years old by now) while I suspect this Voyager Legend is about to phase out thus the clearance-like pricing.

    • The noise cancellation is great back then but not to compete with Bose QC35/45 nor AirPods Pro 2 or alike.

I presume you're talking about the mic? I think the closer proximity to the mouth makes it work better as it can rely less on digital noise reduction.

      Mic test example

      • In reality VL mic is either on par or poorer than my QC35 or AirPods. As of earpiece noise cancellation, that’s almost non-exist on my VL. I cannot feel any optimisation compared to normal headset, not mentioning ANC products. May be because of the on-ear silicon tip provides a better seal? I don’t know. The silicon ear tip is indeed more comfortable than in-ear style products when wearing for long periods of time, though.

It is a very good product when ranked among the same category in the same era.

        • In reality VL mic is either on par or poorer than my QC35 or AirPods.

I have the QC35 too and don't use it for calls as the mic sounds more distant… which isn't surprising because it is.

Well.. . that's because it doesn't have any earpiece noise cancellation. :)
It's just a normal earphone that doesn't seal, like the AirPod (as opposed to e.g. the AirPod Pro or the Sony WF1000XM3/4 etc).

          • @eug: Voyager series was advertised to have two-way noise cancellation.

My point overall is that VL was good. Just no longer competitive in 2020s.

            • @xmagic:

Voyager series was advertised to have two-way noise cancellation.

Where did you see that? The Voyager Legend and 5200 do not have ANC on the user's side. The Voyager Focus does, but that's a headphone.

My point overall is that VL was good. Just no longer competitive in 2020s.

The mics on the current crop of high-end earphones (AirPod Pro, Sony WF1000XM4, Bose QC Earbuds 2, Galaxy Buds Pro 2 etc) do sound good, but they also cost 5-6x more than this. You'll definitely be able to hear the other party better with the above earphones as they have ANC and a good seal, but you do pay for it. Outgoing audio on the Voyager Legend is really good for something at this price, even compared to other $100 options. It's price-competitive not feature-competitive.

Well you really can't tell without testing yourself!

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGNSDs6WM7Q

So I gave everything I have (all Bluetooth) a go and I have to say I'm shocked. VL behaved like what I expected, but AirPods Pro 2g seems really falling apart in this particular artificial test, while some unexpected devices excels.

      • Great test! Wind is very challenging for microphones as the pressure from the wind can easily overwhelm the small microphones. All of them would work better if it was more regular background noise like traffic, people talking, air conditioning, etc.

The Apple Watch's microphone is under the crown so if the fan was blowing from the left side of the watch, the microphone would be shielded from the wind. I'd be interested to hear how it performs if the wind was blowing against the crown side.

        • I already have my watch crown to the bottom left side (the inverted position) so the microphone is above the crown. Though the opening is still on the side at an angle from the wind.

When Apple Watch Series 3 is announced, there was a live demo for voice call with the voice also quite clean. However the biggest problem for Apple Watch is that the speaker is too quiet for a call, essentially make the other end hear you good, but you can't hear them.

  • Tried this and the Jabra talk 45 as well. Both of them got poor fit - low sound - and disconnection issues. Very irritating.

I used soundpeats A7 pro. When on deal - you can get it around $35 mark. Pretty decent for calls - mic is decent - Battery is amazing - Doesn't go to sleep (important if you want a headset ready in case you get a call out of nowhere on work laptop) and light. You have a little bit of clamping force but that is relative. Maybe its ok for others.
