Can a Faulty Battery Kill My Wall Charger

I have a Xiaomi mi pad 2 which seems to have a dead battery/charging port, no response at all when I plug it in. Was reading up on some forums to plug it in for 30 mins and press the buttons for 30 secs.

Plugged it in this morning, went and did some stuff and then smelt a burning plastic smell. My wall charger was super hot and nothing was charging (had another phone plugged in). Took it out and tried again when it cooled down, still nothing charges and it started burning again.

Is it possible for the dead pad battery to have killed my wall charger or a random coincidence? It's a Cygnett 45w PowerPlus, funnily enough i got this Cygnett to replace my Heymix but my Heymix has been going fine for 3 years now.

Was actually going to open up my Mipad to change the battery and the port to see if it revives but I don't want to kill my chargers lol

    It's a Cygnett 45w PowerPlus

I have had 2x Cygnett 32W PowerPlus fail out of 4 last year. All bought from JB Hi-Fi.
First one failed within 2 - 3 months with very low usage.
Second one failed within 2 weeks of purchase.

I should have checked the reviews on JB Hi-Fi, as other folks have had similar experiences.

    • Damn, I thought it had good reviews. I redeemed my Telstra plus points for it. Had another tapo wifi plug fail as well from Telstra. Annoying thing is I have to bring it back and they won't pick up the bloody phone for me to book a time.

I have been using it quite a lot for 7 months, but what are the odds of it failing when I plug in my dead pad lol

    • Have you got any tapo p100 wifi plugs? mine failed last night (another failed a few months ago), not sure if somethings wrong with my house or those products just arent good lol!

      • tapo p100 wifi plugs

I had to google the product. So, definitely no. Haha!
        Power surge?

Bring Cygnett to our beloved Gerry.
    Feel the no warranty clause…….

  • No, it's not possible for the dead battery to kill the charger. A working charger could kill the battery tho.

    • Ah thanks. I thought that the plug will be trying to charge it then it backfires back into the charger and boom
