Looking for Dock Recommendations

Hi guys, trying to find a dock to hook up:

  • 2 x 27” Full HD monitors via HDMI
  • 5 x USB-A peripherals
  • 1 x USB-C with PD to connect to laptop (Dell XPS 15)

Ideally would want more USB-C ports with TB, and capability to handle upgraded monitors in future (e.g. 2 x 27” 4K) etc. but that jacks up the price more…

Anyone with any recommendations?

Cheers

EDIT: Currently using an old-school Targus ACP71AU dock which I picked up from work. For the most part it works (with few workarounds e.g. no power delivery, and using a HDMI cable from monitor to DVI to dock), but annoyingly the mouse/keyboard sometimes lags and I can't figure out why…

    A GP or a specialist?

  • I don't have one myself but after going doing research the Caldigit ones (ts3, ts4) always come up on top.

The issue you will probably have though is getting one that has power delivery that can charge that laptop.

I'm not sure on the Dell XPS 15 but some laptops won't charge at all if the wattage is below that of its power brick.

    • Yeh the Caldigit ones look pretty good but not wanting to spend that much.

I’ve been using this. If you use a displayport to hdmi cable it should meet your requirements??assuming 90W PD is enough for your XPS.

If it needs 130W then it is a difficult find. You could consider this

  • I use this to hook up my 2 monitors and everything https://www.bunnings.com.au/antsig-5-in-1-usb-c-hub_p0286527… No doubt cheaper equivalents exist.

I have 1 HDMI port on the laptop so I use that, which allows me to run the other one from the hub.

While it only has 2 USB-A slots, I have 4 in total inc 2 on the machine. I am sure somewhere will have cheapo USB-A docks you can add on.

If you can get away without power delivery then its basically its as budget a setup as you can get.

    • Thanks mate, but I'm looking for a 1 cable solution from the laptop i.e. one cable from laptop to dock, and everything else fits into dock.

It’s been superseded by a new model (more $$$), so grab a wd19tbs while you still can. https://www.centrecom.com.au/dell-thunderbolt-3-laptop-dock-…

  • Would recommend the Dell Thunderbolt Dock TB16. been using it with 3 monitors. One usb c cable from laptop works well.

  • Dell Thunderbolt docks are probably worth a look in your case as they have a proprietary extension to USB PD which allows up to 130w.

I'm using a MBP with a Dell WD22TB4 with dual 27" 1440p monitors. The second monitor is connected via usb-c to HDMI cable.
