Harmon Kardon Sound Bar

This is probably a dumb question, I am new to soundbars!

Harvey Norman are trying to sell me the Harmon Kardon Citation soundbar, which they have reduced from $1250 to $700s -> link: https://www.harveynorman.com.au/harman-kardon-citation-bar-v…

Is the Harmon Kardon better than the Samsung HW-930B soundbar? (https://www.appliancecentral.com.au/hw-q930bxy-samsung-q-ser…)

Will be using with my 4K TV Samsung Q70A, primarily for watching movies, TV shows & some gaming

  • You need one of these: https://www.techhive.com/article/1444618/nakamichi-dragon-so…

While other soundbar manufacturers are showing off compact all-in-one soundbars at CES 2023, Nakamichi is going the other way with the Dragon, a massive 11.4.6-channel soundbar system that serves up a bone-rattling 21 channels of audio.

    • Eww… official tech specs only list peak power…

      • I read a review somewhere and they sang it's praises. I don't know how it would compare to a similarly priced amp/speaker setup…and probably never will. :)

Go the Samsung it has rears and a sub

  • Harmon Kadon are overpriced, but for years now they have been high quality. Kia use Harmon Kadon in the Stinger GT. I have their Studio 6 bluetooth party speakers and they are very powerful, I use two of them as TV speakers. Years ago they were a dinky weird brand but I think they've move dup in reputation a lot since they early days.

Why not let the salesman plug them in and let you hear the difference? Let Hardly Normal earn their markup imo.

All sound bars use tiny, tiny drivers. Maybe 50mm tops. There's only so much you can expect from them, and there is a low ceiling on how good they are going to sound. The Harmon one doesn't even seem to have sub drivers, how is it magically going to break the laws of physics and compete with the much larger (maybe 6"?) driver on the Samsung?

Frankly, I wouldn't expect that much from the Samsung either, but I'd take it over the Harmon.

Personally, I just use a pair of modest stereo speakers hooked up to the TV.
