WRX ECU Update for TGV Delete

I know that there are some knowledgeable WRX folks on here…

I've had the tumbler valves removed from my MY02 WRX. I want to get the ECU updated to remove the CEL codes.

Rather than do this myself (buy tactrix cable, research romraider etc), is there someone on these forums, who knows what to do and can help me out?

I'm in lower north shore Sydney.

Thanks

Man I miss the info and people on Rexnet for stuff like this; you could have had this done in a couple of days

Where do the ex-Rexnet people hang out now?
I've been looking for a good Oz WRX forum, but not really found what I want.

I'm still waiting for approval to join the Facebook Rexnet group so I don't know if its any good.

No idea unfortunately. I stopped paying attention when the site closed.

The Rexnet group on FB is nothing like what the site was. FB groups are not good when you want a nerdy solution to a problem (and not just people posting pics of their cars)

As far as I know there isn’t anything Australian specific. Might be worth trying NASIOC for it, it is an American site but I know a number of members were active on both

I hadn't thought about contacting Oz users on a US site, but good idea.
          Thanks

Supermax or running a forklift at IGA with an Gucci ankles bracelet.

Mate I remember that username, I'm Asymmetry. You had that silver 06 Sedan right, think I sold you a swaybar lol

Hahahahahahaha no f.ing way!!! And yeah correct

        Kerp ;-)

LOL 22mm whiteline adjustable IIRC Still running a Screwbaru? What happened to your 06?

I sold the Kebab spec wagon upgrade to 17 STI and a Kia daily, I like the Kia better lol

@Bid Sniper: Hahaha I’d believe that but BRUH wot about the greatest 4 cyclometer engine ever built, the EJ20? How do you like the STI?

06 is long gone. I bought an overpriced Toyota 10 years ago (ISS350) and now have the same amount of under steer but with more straight line speed and a lot more comfort. I still have my glorified Datsun too, that thing has nearly done 20k in the last 13 years.

I actually wouldn’t mind getting a wagon of old (not the lowered RAV4 wannabes screwbaru currently have on sale). A GF8 would be ideal

@Gunnar: Nice, was looking at is250 as a daily. IS350 as has something WRX doesn’t have, low end torque. R33 Skyline IIRC right?

Is as EJ20 as good as a XR8 with John Bowe signed throttlebody?

I really like the STI, luxury to me as a Subaru owner lol. Has just enough tech but without being annoying, MSR tuned it as well so runs really good. $#!tmagnet though, its black so cop magnet as well, so sits in garage like your skyline. Did hammer home the point cars have changed a lot last 10 years and no amount of money thrown at an old car will make as good as a modern car.

So I got this Kia as a daily beater, honestly if I was going to buy a new car would be Hyundai I20N or Yaris Gr4. in Sydney its enough.

I bidded on a few classic STI wagons but prices and mileage is off-putting to me. After direct injection twin scroll turbo from the Kia hard to go back to sub 3000rpm death valley.

  • Should be able to reset the code with an OBDII reader.

permanently disable the code altogether, probably wise to go to a workshop and ask them to do it.

    • I was hoping that some kind WRX owner who has done this before would help me out.
If not, can you recommend a workshop??

      • Im an evo guy and I am very much out of the car scene so nope.

MRT have a rubbish reputation but they can probably help you out with this particular thing without too much hassle.

Back when I was in the WRX scene the best workshops and tuners were Michael South Engineering (Central Coast), NRG, Autotech (both Sydney).

Michael South was the pick of the bunch, the only people who had bad stuff to say about him were ones chasing a certain output but he didn’t think it was safe to chase those numbers on their car. The latter two there were a number of stories of cars blowing up on the dump. Dunno if that has changed in the last 10 years though

  • you probably need to go see a tuner shop and get them to remove the code from the ecu, but they will probably want you to spend more like tune the car also

    • Its probably only 10 mins work to disable the codes, for someone who knows what they are doing.
But as you say, a tuner or workshop will want a bigger job to get some $.
I'll phone around to see if anyone is interested in just removing the codes.

I don't really want to buy a Tactrix cable and do it myself :-(

      • Too bad your in near me…I have a tactrix cable ;(

Ask for help on wrx forums

  • If I was you I'd just buy a knock off cable for ~$50 (https://m.aliexpress.com/item/33019335206.html) and use the supplied EcuFlash to disable the CEL.

  • Just put a sticker over the engine light.

Id get MSR to look at it and give your car a health check. Older car will have issues, he can put it up on the hoist and have a look. I had a GD and he fixed the AVCS on it. 02 dont have AVC but they have that rubbish cat in the up pipe.

    Been using him for years

  • Dan, at the Rumble Shack sorted it out today.
If I understood correctly, he couldn't find a base map/definition file for my ECU Cal ID.
So he used the A4SD800A base map, which is the same year/model/JDM as mine and which he said matched my boost tables etc.
He disabled the TGV flags in that and flashed it to my car and everything seems good.
